X1 Carbon Gen8 + two 4K/60Hz displays

2021-07-05, 22:33 PM

I'm using Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen8  with ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2 (40AN0135).  Connected 2 Dell 27" monitors via HDMI.
As per the below link ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2 is capable of working two 4k (3840*2160) displays at 60HZ.

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd029622#Thunderbolt%203%20Workstation%20Dock%20Gen%202

But my PC/docking station is outputting two displays only at 30Hz. because of the low refresh rate, the video experience is not smooth on the external displays. What can I do to output at 60Hz? I have tried changing the cables to display port but it did not help. All the drivers and firmware are up to date.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Amar

You are looking at the DisplayPort 1.4 table, and the X1C8 is DisplayPort 1.2. Use the DisplayPort 1.2 table, which matches what you are seeing.
USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.

Thanks for your reply. If X1C8 supports DisplayPort 1.2 then I'm indeed looking at the wrong table.

Any idea how can I get two 4k external monitors at 60Hz with this dock. Thanks for your help.
