X1 Carbon H5321gw 8.0.X.X Driver Series Faulty

2013-06-19, 9:31 AM

Hi there,

Has anyone else had issues using the 8.0.X.X series of drivers under Windows 8 on their H5321gw WWAN ?

On resume from sleep the WWAN card sometimes doesn't work - also whilst roaming in a foreign country the connection keeps throwing up that the APN is invalid.

I know it is these drivers because if I uninstall them and install the 7.2.5.4 Windows 7 drivers then everything works as expected. (This laptop never shipped with 7.X drivers as it was a Windows 8 X1CT)

I'm not sure if there's much point in me banging on about it because I doubt anything will get done but the 8.0.9.3 and earlier 8 series drivers seem to be a bit of a mess, they don't reconnect to your manually selected network - they drop out from time to time, and I've ended up having to use Series 7 drivers to get everything working ok.

If anyone else has been having trouble with the Windows 8 specific drivers it would be good to know that I'm not the only one.

Anyone else gonna throw some experience in on this one ?

Would help me to understand why I have to revert to the 7.2.XX series of drivers.

There are endless issues with Ericsson WWAN modems in general. You are lucky if you were able to get driver version that works and the connection is stable.

They just pushed out a new driver yesterday, I am going to investigate if this is any better.

I doubt it will be.

Just for the record the 8.0.10.X series drivers are still quite badly broken when it comes to roaming on a foreign network and network finding times from cold boot/sleep.

It also won't connect to some networks abroad saying the APN is incorrect, when it isn't.

The drivers need some SERIOUS work they are not useable as they are.

Are there any driver upgrades in the pipeline from 8.0.10.1 ?

Did you try to upgrade the firmware as well? I had issues with the wwan driver under Windows 8 before i installed the new firmware. It worked fine under Windows 7 without the firmware upgrade.

Hey Gan,

Yeah I'm already on the latest firmware

All the 8.X.X.X series drivers seem to be really bugger, the 7.2.X.X driver series work under windows 8 and seem to work slightly better but then you can't use the flight mode switch or GPS.

With the 8 series drivers I can't connect to Vodafone Spain (Roaming) but I can connect to Movistar and Orange Spain fine, my home network is Vodafone UK.

Rolling back to the 7.2 driver series and I can connect fine to Vodafone Spain.

Hope they can get this stuff sorted. As basic roaming functionality seems to be pretty broken.

Also the time to find a network from cold boot takes ages, then ages again to go from 2G to 3G. Also in the 8 Series drivers they brought in preferred networks which automatically pushes you onto your home networks preferred partner network abroad - again not something I really desire, auto select worked fine before and sometimes you want to manually select a network and have it stay on that network, not have it default back to another one whenever it feels like it.

If anyone else has had roaming problems I'd really like to know if I'm the only one or not.

As a quick aside I've put a local sim in for the country I'm in (Spain) and it works fine so its an issue tied to roaming I'd guess.
