Re: X1 Carbon Power Limit Throttling
I bought the new 6th gen X1 Carbon (16 gb, 1 TB, i7-8650, HDR display). I am trying to bring my CPU temps down and extend my battery life by Undervolting my CPU, using the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. I wanted to run a CPU stress test to record what I have on default settings and getting high temps of 79 C, and Max Core Freqeuncy of around 2.91 (is this okay?). I experience No Thermal throttling but I am experiencing Power Limit Throttling as you can see in the attached images.
Please help answer questions for this noob!
1. Can someone explain what Power Limit Throttling is and if it's okay to have? If not, how do I get rid of it? Intel Turbo Boost Techonology is locked on enabled and I can't change it. Only the Turbo Boost Short Power Max is able to change from Enabled, to Disabled. Disabling that did not get rid of the Power Limit Throttling.
2. What should normal Max Core Frequency be? I'm not quite sure what it means and what values are norms for the 8th gen i7-8550 or 8650 processors.
Thanks as always guys!
