Re: X1 Carbon - SIM card problem (enter a SIM PIN2)

My new Laptop is a Carbon X1 with a "Sierra Wireless EM7455 Qualcomm Snapdragon X7 LTE-A" WWAN card.

After working well for 4 weeks, it started to disconnect from the internet and I am now unable to get an internet connection using that adapter.

Windows 10 network diagnostics tells me I need to "Enter a SIM PIN2 to unlock the mobile broadband device". I can find no way to enter anything.

The only solution is to restart the computer again and again.

I think I have recently installed the newest Sierra wireless software provided by Lenovo.

Please help!

Welcome to the Community

What is currecnt win10 version (update)? Any chance issue has appeared after the recent win10 update?

What is the em7455' firmware version?
Did you try to uninstall Sierra' drivers and software and keep win10 built-in ones? It's enough for modem to work.

Also, what's your cellular operator?

Re: X1 Carbon - SIM card problem (enter a SIM PIN2)

Was this ever resolved? I have the same issue, also with an X1 carbon 5th generation, Sierra EM7455 etc., my driver version is 10.0.16299.192 (Driver date:  01-01-18). Initially mobile broadband worked brilliantly, today from one moment to the other it stopped working, extremely frustrating. It connects very quickly, gets IPv4 and IPv6 IP settings, but immediately the status changes to 'no internet access'. The win 10 diagnosis gives the error mentioned above.

The SIM card works without issues in my cellphone. I have disabled/enabled the mobile broadband interface, rebooted, shutdown, taken the SIM out, tested it in my phone, put it back, nothing helps.

The provider is Vodafone by the way, ironically I was in a Vodafone office when it stopped working :-/

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Re: X1 Carbon - SIM card problem (enter a SIM PIN2)

Hi all,

I noticed that the default gateway of the IP settings of the Mobile Broadband interface was outside the subnet. I then looked at the IP settings of the Mobile Broadband adapter, and it turns out that DHCP was turned off, and it was set to a fixed IP! After simply re-enabling DHCP everything is fine again.

I hope this is of use to anyone, at least it is easy to check and correct if the 'SIM PIN 2' error pops up.

The question remains how the setting was changed, somewhere along the the line DHCP was disabled, and the interface was stuck with the IP address/mask it had at the time. It is interesting that the default gateway was updated dynamically. Hopefully this can be fixed in a driver somewhere along the line.

Re: X1 Carbon - SIM card problem (enter a SIM PIN2)

Is the sim pin2 issue resolved?

If no, there is a request about wwan card' current firmware version in the post #2 above. Provide it, please.

Re: X1 Carbon - SIM card problem (enter a SIM PIN2)

Yes, the SIM PIN 2 issue is resolved.

I guess the firmware version can still be of interest, here it is:

Name : Cellular
Description : Sierra Wireless EM7455 Qualcomm Snapdragon X7 LTE-A
State : Connected
Device type : This is a remote device
Cellular class : GSM
Manufacturer : Sierra Wireless, Incorporated
Model : Sierra Wireless EM7455 Qualcomm
Firmware Version : SWI9X30C_02.24.03.00

how?

> Firmware Version : SWI9X30C_02.24.03.00

it's not the recent, SWI9X30C_02.24.05.06. Also, apart from the main fw image, em7455 operates by carrier provisioning file (PRI image), the file with extension .nvu in the drivers package. There is Vodafone related image, it should be applied eiher for better modem settings.

Re: X1 Carbon - SIM card problem (enter a SIM PIN2)

I guess it would be more accurate to state that I addressed my original problem, which was that I could not get internet access via the mobile broadband interface. How I fixed that I described a few messages up.

The SIM PIN 2 message appears to be a mis-diagnosis/misnomer from the windows diagnostics tool, there was never anything happening let alone wrong with the SIM PIN 2.
