X1 Carbon Thinkpad (Type 20BS) touchpad tap sensitivity

2015-12-11, 18:33 PM

Hello people,

This is my first Lenovo PC (have always been a Mac user ever since i learned how to handle PCs) and I am trying to get used to windows UI. The user experience is improving day by day. If there is something that I simply can't stand so far, it is the tapping (instead of left or right clicks in trackpad) in my touchpad. It is pretty jumpy from being sensitive to no response and back again. I have tried uninstalling Synaptics drivers, getting the generic one from windows online but nothing seems to help. Any ideas?

And please guide me to page where i can find useful tips/tricks on other customizations.

At least mine seems to have been solved now! Here is what I did:

Installing drivers directly from Synaptics (as a last resort) didn't help either. So, I gave it a reset (using reset my pc). It was a relief to find out that the touchpad was working great in 8.1. So, I followed the guide in Lenovo's website on how to upgrade (uninstalled all the apps/programs, upgraded all drivers to win 10) and everything has been working fine for 18+ hours now.

Edit: But now I have problems with microphone... :-( It works but it doesn't pick up (volume is very very low). And it doesn't recognize external microphone.

sounds like your laptop got a defective touchpad :/ only option is to return it to store asap and have it re-placed with new one since my x1 carbon 3rd gen has no touchpad issue at all it slides and so just as normal.

Thanks for your response @JakeSully! It scrolling up and down, right clicking with two fingers is just fine. So I m pretty sure it is not defective. It's just the left tap (say for example, double tapping to open an app from desktop) that is not acting as it should.

I m on Win 10. I have gone through this cycle of removing and installing drivers a couple of times now. It's quite frustrating... :-/

It works at times (i don't have to tap like I'm poking my finger through) and then I have to start tapping like crazy

okay i have updated my x1 carbon saw it downloaded some synaptics driver or so and now mine is taping weird as well :/ mostley when closing tabs in webrowser and such, i will see if i can fix this and then get back to you how to fix it :)

Update: My problem is now solved and tapping is back to normal :) what i did is go to drivers page here on lenovo and downloaded latest synaptic's drivers and installed it right ontop other one after that tapping issue went away.

Update 2: here is link http://support.lenovo.com/se/sv/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x1-carbon-20bs-20bt select windows 10 64 bit, then touchpad and keyboard and download version ver. 2.0.2.4 that was uploaded on 2015-07-15 :)

Unfortunately for me, that didn't help. I'm trying with download from Synaptics directly...

hmm okay :/ well normally you shouldn't download off synpatics since most of times those drivers arent compatible with touchpad you got due to touchpad in laptop is special made so manufacture recives special drivers for it.

Well installing drivers directly from Synaptics helped...touchpad is now how it should be :-) Thanks for stepping in to help...by the way, do you keep all the junks from Lenovo in your PC? I uninstalled about everything, other than update center...Something that's worth keeping?

okay good :) some times doing this way solves it but most of times these drivers will be rejected since it's not compatible with device you got.
