X1 Carbon Yoga Some Hotkeys Stopped Working

Members,

Recently, I noticed some of the special Hotkey Fn keys stopped working. Here's the breakdown:

Working:

  • F1 (speaker on/off)
  • F2 (vol down)
  • F3 (vol up)
  • F5 (screen bright -)
  • F6 (screen bright +)

Stopped Working:

  • F4 (mic on/off)
  • F7 (project)
  • F8 (wifi on/off)
  • F9 (settings)
  • F10 (search)
  • F11 (open apps?)
  • F12 (all apps?)

This happened once before and a driver/BIOS update fixed it, but this time, nothing seems to fix it. The keys themselves work (the normal Fn keys work). Searching Google and the Forums comes up empty. Support only wanted me to ship it in for warranty review ?!?!

Specs:

Product: 20FQ001VUS

BIOS: N1FET63W 1.37

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit Version 1803 Build 17134.167

Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad Version 9.0.2.2

All updates completed (Lenovo and Windows).

NEW: maybe the latest Windows update broken something?

Any thoughts/ideas?

Thanks!

-Matt

Re: X1 Carbon Yoga Some Hotkeys Stopped Working

I have the same problem. Yesterday I updated the latest BIOS and also installed a recommended Lenovo hotkey package. I suspect one or these is the culprit.

Correct - the BIOS update was 1.37 and the Hotkey driver was 9.0.2.2. I tried several older Hotkey drivers to no avail...

Re: X1 Carbon Yoga Some Hotkeys Stopped Working

I found a solution that worked for me. I had both Lenovo Vantage and Lenovo Settings installed.  Lenovo settings is obsolete and should be uninstalled ( right click on its tile for the option) and then the hot keys seem to work.

Can you share the download links to be sure I try the same ones?

Also, did you remove the Settings after and it still worked?
Thanks.

Re: X1 Carbon Yoga Some Hotkeys Stopped Working

I found the following information from Lenovo. The README says to uninstall Lenovo Settings.

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds031814

Also when I opened Lenovo Settings before I uninstalled  it, there was a message saying it is obsolete and should be uninstalled. Uninstalling it  has apparently allowed other recently installed features to become functional.  Lenovo Vantage looks somewhat different now.
