Hi Asher,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I’m sorry to hear that your Lenovo ThinkPad X1 carbon doesn’t wake up from sleep properly.

I would suggest you to try installing the latest version of display drivers and Lenovo Power management driver and check if it resumes from sleep normally.

If the above said didn’t help, try the "reset" hole on the bottom of the laptop. You'd use a paper clip to trip the switch.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,

Mithun.

Hi,

Reset button simply restarts the system--it's called a "warm-boot". While you'll lose any programs or files that are in RAM, your installed programs and operating system are going to be okay. Often after a hard reset, the OS will run checkdisk to scan your drive for errors that may have been made.

Regards,

Mithun.

Re: X1 Carbon: after opening the lid in sleep mode it does not wake up

Hello, I have the same problem with 20A7. I tried all the suggested things (re-installed latest display and power managemnt drivers) and finally tried the reset button (btw. pressing the reset button ended in a hard shut down, not in a warm boot).

Unfortunatelly, nothing worked. Problem still exists.

Anybody with new ideas or a solution?

Thanks.

The same problem with my 20A7. Lenovo says machine is DOA and I should have the motherboard replaced (they did not relly investigate that much, the tech decided that in about 1 minute).

This is what I found out though when I returned the Win7 installation to a factory state: I has nothing to do with the power manager; the problem persists with both old or newest PM version. When plugged into the wired internet connection and wifi not enabled - sleep and wakeups are rock solid. When in wifi - reproducible freezing in sleep mode.

Run the Lenovo software update utility and in the optional installs install the Intel WLAN 17.12.0. Or check in your Win Control Panel if you have the Intel "Proset/Wireless Software 17.12.0 already installed. This update fixed the issue for me. But I do not have any 3rd party software running yet, so I cannot say this is the final fix.

This helped me too

This thread still appears on Google so for the record I think I may have come across a solution for this. It seems to be an issue with USB devices preventing the system from entering the sleep state.

The following looks to have fixed the issue for me:

"Somewhere in my researching this, I found a suggestion that worked for everyone who tried it, which was to go into Device Manager>USB Controllers> and then select the first item (in my case it's "Generic USB Hub") open its Properties>Power Management and then DESELECT "Allow the computer to turn off this device..."  and then the suggestion was to do this for EVERY USB device in the list.(!!!)"

From:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-hardware/what-does-usb-selective-susp...

(This thread describes a Windows Vista problem, but it appears to be the same on Windows 7. I am running Windows 7 Pro)

I'm using Windows 10, the same issue still exists.

I tried the recommended power management change for all USB devices - IT WORKS, THNAKS

Thanks so much for this. The USB fix helped as I had reformatted my machine and could not remember the fix.
