X1 Carbon & mobile broadband extension card/modem

2014-07-31, 20:52 PM

Hi All,

I wonder if someone could help me with upgrading my Lenovo X1 Carbon 2014. I've had laptop with SIM card reader but without broadband extension card. So, I bought the broadband extension card on the e-bay (Ericsson N5321gw).

I've installed the hardware (extension card was inserted, red and blue cables were connected) and drivers/software from Lenovo website. I've put SIM card to the reader and if iI try to turn it on... there is an information "SIM card is not present... bla bla bla". I've checked different cards of different mobile operators and there is always the same information.

I gave up! Maybe there is somebody here who knows what I do wrong?

Thanks in advance!

BR,

Kuba

Hi,

what application do you get such error message in? Or do you get it after you pressed the wireless icon in Function Mode for the adaptive keys?
Is wwan port enabled in BIOS Setup menu (I/O Port Access menu)?

Anyway open cmd line window, type in the following commands and post results here:
netsh mbn sh rad int=*
and:
netsh mbn sh int

You can remove ID information (IMEI) for your privacy.

Excellent.

Everything you need is to set your carrier Access Point Network value (APN) in the connection profile. It depends of the tariff plan you're connected to.

Do not use Lenovo activation app as it's for the AT&T and Verizone carriers only.

Ups... I've done it (APN for my operator was just "internet"). Unfortunately, the message is the same: "SIM card is not present. Please insert the SIM card and try again." :(

Any other ideas?

I hope there are no unknown devices or exclamation marks in Device Manager.
Be sure sim card is inserted properly, look at the laptop user guide for details.
Also be sure mobile broadband service is enabled for your sim card by the carrier.

Type in:
netsh mbn sh hom int=*
netsh mbn sh cap int=*
netsh mbn sh con int=*
netsh mbn sh read int=*

---

UPD

As well I hope you do not use any connections manager except of the OS built-in one.

Hi,

No - there are no unknown devices / exclamation marks etc. Everything seems to be right.

SIM card is also inserted properly, according to the user guide. Broadband service is enabled - all prepaid operators offer 3G or 4G internet.

I use Lenovo - Internet connection as a connectiona manager.

The results of typeing in cmd are as follows:

http://zapodaj.net/51cc08173dfbb.jpg.html

Do you understand Polish a little bit? :) If not...

message 1: sim card not present, cannot gather some information

message 2:

message 3: device not ready, try later

message 4: no sim card / turned-off

:(

Any other steps?

Hi,

no problem to understand netsh screenshots content :)

Are these output messages the only?
Does cmd #2 return empty result?

Stupid request - check out wireless control window (Fn+F5). Do you see anything regarding mobile broadband? Is there the tab with profiles?

Again, do not use (launch) any connections manager for the test purpose except of the built-in one as the AC you are using (isn't it?) can conflict with built-in one because of missed profile settings.
Or we have to look at the AC settings too.

---

UPD

I didn't consider the OS version (is yours win7?) when I mentioned AC and adaptive keyboard  - Fn+F5 command is for the classic layout.
