I am running Windows 7 PRO on Carbon X1 and I have a constant “disconnection” problem with the modem.
Current firmware is FIH7160_V1.1_MODEM_01.1349.12 – this is shown in the Intel MBIM Firmware Updater.
I downloaded latest Lenovo driver for my X1 Carbon, Windows 7 PRO from Lenovo www and installed it.
Then I opened Intel MBIM Firmware Updater as I want to change firmware to V1.2
It went OK.
When I pressed “Update Firmware” there is answer:
ERROR: Firmware v1522.02 is not intended for this model of the device”.
I tried with other firmware versions, eg:
behave exactly the same
I need to upgrade firmware to 1.2 as I have a constant “disconnection” problem with EM7345.

We have this problem too and we think that it extends to our Intel Wireless adapter as well.
We've reproduced this issue on multiple Windows 10 X1 (Yoga) Thinkpads with up-to-date drivers.
We're currently testing further by going to Device Manager > Network Adapters > Power Management (tab) and then unchecking "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" for both wireless adapters (Sierra LTE and Intel).

This solution worked on Win7:
