X1 Carbon doesn't boot. Power light comes on, fan spins power goes off after about 20 seconds or so

2019-12-14, 8:20 AM

I'm trying to get this X1 back running. I've looked around and tried a few things such as

  • remove the battery and power on using just mains.
  • press and hold the power button for a long time to flush the static
  • pressed the reset button through the tiny hole in the base
  • tried connecting to my TV as it's HDMI out on the laptop

none of the above has made any difference. I feel that i need to try a mainboard next but keen to know if you have done it, how hard did you find it?

The Lenovo site tells me it's a 3rd generation so I'm going to buy the relevant mainboard. anything else I should try first?

thanks for any help/insight you can offer

G

oh this is brilliant, I put in the serial number in and I got back a single response for the system board (which makes sense).

I got back the response of WIN,i7-5600,AMT,TPM,8GB with a part number of 00HT361 or a manufacturer part number of SL10G74962

This is a huge help, I'll watch the video too so thank you VERY much.
