Re: X1 Carbon gen 4 PCIe NVMe SSD upgrade problem

Ok lads and lasses that are following along.

According to Acronis support
The drive name will be the actually hardware name.

've been the victim of a hi jack.
Someone bought it and put their old drive in the box after moving the label to the old PM951 drive.
Then they returned it and it got re stocked.

I bought it at a discount knowing it was an open box. So I took a chance and got screwed.
The place I got it from will take it back but somebody basically shoplifted.

Live and learn. Sealed box. I get it now.

Then I get to try this again.

Re: X1 Carbon gen 4 PCIe NVMe SSD upgrade problem

So,

My story is taking a twist

I took the drive in. Installed in the laptop.
I showed what was going on.
I had the new drive working.
I had Crystal Disk info installed.
i had Samsung magician installed.
They at first were, probably rightfully so, thinking it was the correct drive and I had just done something wrong. 99 out of a 100 times, sure. I get it.

I explained I had used Acronis to migrate everything and had already got the word from them that the actual drive can't be changed with anything I could have done.

I showed them Crystal Disk info.
It's a PM951. ( oem Samsung)
They started Samsung magician and it said no compatible drives found. It only works with non OEM Samsung drives.

He popped it open and looked really carefully.
And saw green.
Hmm. I hadn't noticed that before.
I took it out and we looked at the whole stick.

Someone used a black Sharpie and colored over the green PCB, moved the sticker, and
returned it.

Basically stealing it.

Ok. Not the end of the world.
Lets find you another....

Nope. Not in any store.
Well, let's find you a 960 pro.
Nope. Not in any store.
Samsung is out. Completely.
No expected date of fulfillment due to supply.

I got my my money back and went shopping.
Holy cow. The old drives are twice as expensive as the new ones. If you can find one.

What happened?

I'm going to keep looking but I had no idea this would be so
crazy.

The slots are different? You can't expect to install an NVME Card into the M.2 Slot? Can you?
