X1 Extreme Gen 2 USB-A 3.1 connection issues

2020-02-22, 22:29 PM

Hi, the two USB-A 3.1 ports on my X1 Extreme Gen 2 are having problems. When I plug in, for example, a USB 3.0 flash drive, moving the flash drive very slightly and even touching it will cause it to repeatedly disconnect and reconnect. For some reason, USB 2.0 connections do not have this problem, no matter how much I move it. I have already gotten this repaired once by the depot center, so I am suspecting that it is not a hardware issue. Any help would be appreciated.

I noticed that USB 2.0 has four connections on the bottom, but USB 3.0 has five additional connections on the top. Would this be a hardware or software issue?

I had the same problem with a specific brand of USB sticks on my X1 Extreme Gen 1.

It seems to me to be a mechanical problem regarding the USB ports.

Thanks for the reply. Did you fix this problem? If so, how?

No solution. I switched to a different brand of USB sticks that worked.

Did you get any USB 3.0 sticks to work?

Does anyone know how to pry the four top prongs of the USB port down so that they are not so flat?

Someone with the same problem said changing the motherboard fixed the problem. Anyone know why this is or if it is necessary?
