Re: X1 Extreme Gen 2 cover has a screw which had ripped the threads

Did you ever get anywhere with this? I have the exact issue (noticed after adding a second SSD), and still noticed it after adding RAM later. I wasn't that worried about it, but I notice it every time I pick up the laptop by the front edge - you can feel the bottom cover isn't tight.

Happened to me the same yesterday while I was cleaning the fans. Not cool.

Now I am scared to open the notebook again.

I have about 3 screws that i cannot tighten, it's terrible because the laptop creeks every time that i pick it up. Any workarounds to tighten the screws?

Re:X1 Extreme Gen 2 cover has a screw which had ripped the threads

I had the same issue with, I believe, the same screw. It was not an easy fix because it was the hole that was stripped, and not the screw. Initially they thought changing out the screw would fix it, but since the screws are attached to the bottom cover and not removable from the cover, they had to replace the whole bottom cover. This did not fix the problem because like I mentioned, the hole was the problem. A side effect of this "fix" was that the new bottom cover didn't have the serial number sticker on it, so the tech had to remove the sticker from the old cover and put it on the new one, but it looks partially peeled off now.

Since the hole is attached to the frame of the laptop, they had to remove and put back a whole crap-ton of things to access it, and replace a large portion of the frame just to replace the hole. I have the premiere warranty so they sent out a tech twice to fix this issue (the first time was when they realized replacing the bottom cover didn't fix it).

tl, dr: the hole was the problem, and replacing it was a convoluted process that involved almost completely taking apart the laptop and putting it back together.

Funny thing was my cover wasn't even creaking or anything despite the loose screw. In hindsight, the fix wasn't worth it.

My laptop had 3 such screws that we be longer working even if they looked fine.

I was asked by Lenovo to send the laptop in and I just received it today.

2/3 screws are now tightened but the third one will still not tightening up.

Did they miss the third one or did they replace all 3 but one broke as they were putting the laptop back together?

Anyway, I'm really feeling the premium flagship experience with this product. Great job everybody!

I'm now wondering if I should spend extend the warranty by paying about $80/year for the premium experience of not fixing a $0.05 screw should I need it in the future.
