X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

2019-11-10, 19:41 PM

Okay, I have been using my X1E2 for a little while now. Very mixed feelings about the device, aside of the poor battery life and couple other bugs my keyboard is missing keystrokes constantly, it's like the laptop is lagging altought there is nothing happening on the backround. The problem is beyond bearable, like every tenth word misses a letter or even more.

It only happens wih the built-in keyboard. When I'm using an external keyboard it does not occur. Does anyone else have the same problems? It definitely feels like a software bug because there is nothing wrong with the keys, they feel normal.

Re: X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

I encountered the same issue, from my testing it appears the keyboard goes into a powersaving mode which causes it to miss keystrokes. I managed to fix it by disabling USB selective suspend in the windows power plan. I have had no missing keystrokes since then that I've noticed atleast

Hope it helps!

Got the same issue with the same machine. TrackPoint also bricked after firmware update. Lenovo will come and change keyboard and c-cover.

I have the exact same problem!!! I made a post a couple hours ago about it. Glad to see I'm not the only one with this. I also dual boot linux and I still have the problem which worries me that it's a hardware issue. Lenovo please respond!

Do you happen to have any idea on how I can turn this off in an ubuntu based distro?

Haven't used ubuntu for a while but a quick google search revealed this: https://askubuntu.com/questions/185274/how-can-i-disable-usb-autosuspend-for-a-specific-device

let me know if disabling this will actually fix it for you!

To add: I just received a replacement device because my first one also had a problem with the bottom cover not screwing in correctly. But this device has the same issue with missing keystrokes which is fixed by disabling usb selective suspend in windows.

Hi there! Does it happens even when using an external keyboard? Try checking if the issue occurs in safemode. Here are the steps: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht116905. Make sure also that the BIOS is up to date. The version should be 1.27.

Let us know how it goes.

Was this issue ever resolved for you? I've got the same problem going on right now. I've opened a support ticket so we'll see what Lenovo says I guess...I'm past my return window, or I'd get the hell rid of this laptop.

It doesn't happen with external keyboards and windows & bios are up-to-date. Issue also happens on my replacement device. Disabling usb selective suspend in windows power settings seems to fix it mostly. Seems the keyboard goes into some power saving mode often where it doesnt register keystrokes for a short period.

Hi all, try also if the issue occurs in BIOS: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht500222. If yes, kindly provide to us the Windows 10 build version, BIOS version and EC version. Thanks.
