Re: X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

2019-12-12, 0:59 AM

I normally mute all sounds when I work. Therefore I never noticed there's beep when the key is missing.

I will test it later.

If you press more than 3-4 keys simultaneously, all keys will be lost for sure. So if key stoke missing is related to beep, then it's probably something wrong with key board controller, and it periodically and randomly thinks there are multiple keys pressed simultaneously?

I tested but there's NO BEEP sound when the keystroke is missing.

So at least for me they are not related.

Dear customers,

thanks for many volunteers to offer their system replacement in order to investigate the "keystroke missing" symptom by failure systems.

Lenovo service team already selected 4 persons ( 2 persons from EMEA and 2 persons from US ) and started to replacement.

I'm very sorry not all of the volunteers can join this program, I'd like to close this program now.  I'm very appriciate forum users participation.

I will update the analysis progress on time and encourage development team to fix it ASAP.

Re: X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

I'm posting on here to confirm the same experience with my X1 Extreme Gen 2.  I bought this unit new off the outlet a couple weeks ago.  Built Sept 2019.  i7 9750, 16gb ram, 4k OLED multitouch.

I thought it was me at first and needed to get used to the new keyboard coming from an older Thinkpad.  But yesterday one of my accounts got locked because the long password I was typing must have been missing keys.  This has happened previously, but I have learned to type passwords SLOW and deliberate to avoid the problem.

I absolutely think the keyboard issue is also linked with the touchpad, as I've noticed missed clicks AND even sometimes, the mouse doesn't respond at first when I move my finger on it.  I have to lift and try again and it'll work.  This is insane.  Makes me hate using the touchpad.

I will PM the lenovo rep on here my system info.

Please consider that I am a South America client (Chile) that probably will need help from yours to explain the situation to Lenovo's local support. A KB article maybe, or issue a recall, if this is Hardware related.

Currently the Notebook is marked as 'sold out' in Lenovo's Web Store. I don't know if this is related to this problem and I think there only a few units sold. So I am worried that a problem fix will not have aviability here.

Thank you in advance.

P1 GEN 2, same here, first I thought it's I can't get used to the new keyboard, but it's not the case.

It's just shame, pay $1600 for a laptop you can't type. Never ever buy any Lenovo products.

Same issue here, X1E2, received 12/12/2019.  Mostly missing the 'n' key.  Just turned off the selective suspend and will see if that makes things any better.

update: still missing n keystrokes and a couple others, even with usb suspend disabled.

While we all wait for a fix, I wonder if the problem is not related to the reduction of key travel. The first generation of thinkpad P1 had 2..2mm travel according to this review

https://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/laptops/lenovo-thinkpad-p1

and the one I purchased (P1 Gen 2, supposedly very similar to the X1) has 1.4mm travel, as per my measurement. This is the same travel as my ld Dell Precision, where typing was neither reliable nor comfortable..

This reduction of travel, together with the curved keys, might contribute to missing keystrokes, I don't know.

Certainly typing on my P1 is not as comfortable as on the previous thinkpd that I have owned  (X60, T61).

@morozsm: just in case you don't know about it: try mosh, it might help with the slow connections, I have had great experiences even from China, where internet is crap.

Extremenly annoying, when working with SSH on slow lines, and you can not realize, if it's keystroke miss or slow connection...
