Re: X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

2020-01-19, 21:54 PM

I didn't want to step in immediately when someone mentioned the Dolby Atmos logo in the lower left corner, but I have that keyboard as well (I only had that variant of the laptop) and I have the same issue as everyone else. Keys do feel mushy but I don't know if that's how they are supposed to be or not (this is my first Thinkpad).

My P1 Gen 2 has the Dolby Atmos logo and suffers from this problem.

Ok, I think that we have established that the X1 Gen 2 with the atmos Dolby also has issues with keyboard strokes.

I understand that about a month ago Lenovo put together a team including 2 Volunteers from this Community to investigate and report back.

Does anyone know what the result of this teams investigation was?

Has anyone seen a official Lenovo post about this matter?

What should the customers be doing to resolve this problem?

Shoukd we nominate a representative to follow this matter up? To make the representatives voice stronger, should we all put together a petition and nominate an individual from the community to liaise with Lenovo so that we can resolve this matter?

Is the dolby logo underneath the keyboard or is it somewhere on top to be seen? My X1E2 does not have any visible logos.

Yes, it's below the Fn Key on the LHS of keyboard. It has a small icon followed by DOLBY ATMOS SPEAKER SYSTEM.

Re: X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

I volunteered to help Lenovo. Got an email that they would come and pick up my X1E2. I politely asked if they would bring me a new one. No, I had to wait 4 weeks for a new one. Well, who can live without a laptop for 4 weeks?

Anyway, I told them that I was helping them, and that shouldn't give me a disadvantage. We agreed that I would get a new one first, and then they would come and pick up the defective one. Got the new one Friday, and asked them to move my the extended onsite warranty that I paid for, to the new machine. They couldn't promise me that. Again, I'm helping them, and now have to discuss stupid details about obvious things.

Got our IT-guy to move drives etc., and packed the old one. But I haven't heard from them since Friday.

The new one has a a weird noise from the fans, like something is hitting the fans. Guess I'll have to call onsite again, but I can't because they didn't give me same onsite warranty as on the old one yet.

So I guess you all want to know if the new machine misses keystrokes. Yes, but not as many as the old one. A few on a document page. A little more if there is CPU load. The old one had one missing keystroke per sentence.

The keyboard feels better, and the TrackPoint is better. It has the Dolby Atmos logo. The old one had as well.

The old one has to be sent to Japan by the way. Maybe some kind of testcenter.

Thank you @TomDenmark

I am in the same situation and was planning on discussing exactly the same things you just said. After 1 month without any notice, last week I finally managed to talk to the person associated to my escalation case. He told me they would send me a replacement, but we did not have time to discuss exactly your points: I sent him an email later with the information about my machine (because I want exactly my customization that I paid for, including the guarantee, extras, spanish keyboard, etc...) and I also want to have the new machine first and then return the old one, because I cannot afford being withot my laptop for an undertermined amount of time. I haven't heard back from him yet. In general, not sure if it is a matter of this person, in my experience just getting in contact, replaying emails or voice mails is extremely deficient: I think in one month I might have sent him around 10 emails and left 3 voice messages and received back only a couple of mails and 1 call back, very inefficient and 0 supportive. I am still waiting for his response in terms of sending the replacement first and so on. However, seeing what happened to you I am just afraid and I wonder whether it is worth the trouble or not. In the end the problem is still there, and having to deal with all those extra problems to get the guarantee and other issues...I don't know.
