Re: X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

2020-01-31, 8:55 AM

After I got the new replacement machine, I also noticed that it feels less laggy overall. A lot more smooth feel to it, smooth scrolling too and less fan activity. I was a little disappointed with the old machine, as it didn't feet like a topmodel, but more like a cheap consumer product. The new machine just feels more like it want to cooperate. I really can't explain it more precisely. 10+ hours use a day, gives a certain relationship with the equipment.
I disabled almost everything in BIOS, and I only have a few missing keystrokes now. Not more than I normally would have on other machines, I guess. I write very fast, and I'm actually impressed that it keeps up with my pace.

I think that the missing keystrokes is some kind of error on the motherboard, that also makes the machine feel more laggy. As far as I understand, the motherboard is the only thing that really differs from gen 1.

Re: X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

After many hours of use, I can say that the problem could be repaired with these actions:

- Updating "Intel Corporation - System - 2.5.100.2" via WU

* Not the same as "Intel Corporation - SoftwareComponent -2.5.100.2", that one was installed by WU on Dec-05-2019. The "System" was installed on WU yesterday.

- Disabling Intel SGX on BIOS: changing from "Software Controlled" to "Disabled"

Yesterday I had the problem with the backspace missing keystrokes and constantly missing other keys. Later yesterday and today, after disabling SGX, is very rare (but still occurrs). I even re-activated the USB selective suspend and restore all power managment settings.

The amount of letters mispelled (example: "comptuer") dcreased too.

To the people who had their laptop replaced or repaired: could you verify that you have these updates and the option in BIOS disabled? Maybe it's a coincidence.

It's not the first time Intel SGX have had problems: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/msi-micro-stutter-problem-solved.801329/

I remembered that also, I had selected this option to clear something in the BIOS.

"Change owner EPOCH"

Windows is still activated, Windows Hello IR and fingerprint still works. But much less (almost nothing) missed keystrokes since I have selected that option.

I really don't know. Could be the Intel driver update, the SGX disabled, or this EPOCH thing. But one of these options improved dramatically my experience in the last 24 hours.

Ok, even if Intel driver improved situation, it only realted to windows.

But what about linux... So far, I installed that intel driver and performed bios changes.

Let's see, how it will work... So far - it's hard to say...

Remember that you need to select the following option:

Change owner EPOCH

And fully disable SGX.

Re: X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

Just posting here in case anyone from Lenovo is reading these... I bought the P1 Gen 2 as a Macbook Pro replacement due to their horrible keyboards. The sweet irony here is that I wound up with a P1G2 keyboard that is almost as bad as the butterfly MB Pro. Now that Apple has fixed the keyboards on their new MB Pro 16 models (and after radio silence from Lenovo on this issue), back I go to pay the Apple tax. My main gripe is the nonexistant customer service shown by the posts in this thread.
