Re: X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

2020-02-03, 21:02 PM

After a complete day of use, I can confirm:

- The problem remains, but the missing keystorkes are much less than before. I have around 3 or 4 misses every hour.

- In some cases, I am getting two characters plus a space missed if I write too fast.

* For example, "I was asking for_ a refund..."

- My backspace never failed again since I disabled Intel SGX

- I left enabled the Keyboard Beep option on the BIOS, and I am getting constant beeps while I am writing fast, even if this doesn't mean I get missed keystrokes.

Plus, Lenovo Chile support service called me on friday:

- There is no repair part available (keyboard)

- They asked me to turn in the Notebook for a diagnostic period before the refund process

- I asked to a call again today to coordinate this, but, they didn't call me

So... at this point... I simply don't know what to do.

Thanks for confirming the Mik Key illuminates on all keyboards.

Im serious about changing regions, it may help reset the keyboard.

If you are looking for real solutions on Lenovo forums then you will be waiting fir an undisclosed period of time.

Ive been following this thread for months and although Lenovo engages the community in the beginning, we have not heard from them since.

People are using their warranty to change keyboards, but this hasn't fixed the problem.

Not that Lenovo X1 Gen 2 are being back ordered you will have to wait fir parts like keyboard or if your lucky actually getting the whole machine changed.

Good to hear you got a smalll message from Lenovo.

Hold onto your machine until the new one arrives.

Others on here have said they sent their machine to Lenovo only to wait 2 months bf a new one arrived.

I know Lenovo initially engaged the community re-setting up a taskforce to investigate the problem (including 2 volunteers from this forum). But since then they have gone incommunicado!

Anyone hear anything about Lenovo investigation into this matter?

Why do you think there will never be a fix to this issue?

Begite buying mine, and even most recently, all the computer blogs, magazines and so on give the  X1 Gen 2 a 4 Star out of 5 and go on about how the machine has the best heyboard.

I think these reviews have resulted in Lenovo stalling out of the X1 Gen 2.

No, I've been following Theo's thread from the beginning.

Most people with new keyboard say it's better but not fixed. And they report other issues with the computer such as problems with the fans or other issues.

Thats what concerns me and prevents me from sending my machine away for a fix.

Also, most people have had to wait between 1-2 1/2 mo the to get a new machine or fir their new machine to be fixed.

Wait-Times vary because countries.

Thanks alfa84 re- response to raised key. I knew it wasn't normal bc my previous thinkpad keyboard did not have this problem.

In fact, none of my previous laptop keyboards have had any problems with the keyboard.

Whats funny is that this machine costs more than any other laptop I have bought.

Fair enough! The Lenovo X1 generation 2 was meant to compete with Dell XPS 15 and the new Apple MacBook Pro 16.

I liked the HP XPS 15 but heard HP has recently gone backwards in customer service and returns.

Yes, someone from Lenovo should be posting here. I must say that they did have someone post here initially.

They must have checked the problem out and found that it was wide-spread and stopped talking about the matter so that it wouldn't go viral and impact their sales and so they could avoid a recall!

Yes your right, the issue mainly effects earlier keyboards.

In fact, keyboards prior to the December 2019 are the worst effected!

I think your onto something.

My keyboard has got better in time and I have starred pressing the keys harder.

But, this shouldn't be necessary bc this machine comes with the sale pitch that the keyboard is the best!

I received a new P1 (Gen2) yesterday (February 3) from Lenovo Canada, and it also has the issue with the missing keystrokes.  It came from Lenovo with the latest 1.28 BIOS.  The issue happened even while entering information registering for windows.

Just wanted to add my voice to the list of people who have this issue.

A pretty annoying problem.  I'm trying to decide whether to live with it and hope for a software fix, or to send the machine back.
