Re: X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

"Note, this is not happening all the time, sometimes minutes of typing go by and every single character is registered. Then, all of a sudden a letter is missed and I am certain I pressed it all the way down."

Absolutely my problem. Everything will seem fine and then suddenly....missed letter. Another missed letter. Then fine again.

Re: X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

I just played around in BIOS and I think it is very unreliable to test if keystrokes are missed simply relying on the feedback beeps, as it is perfectly normal for the BIOS only to beep twice even if you pressed three keys in quick succession as it cannot keep up and can only beep at a certain speed. And as there is no text box in the BIOS apart from the admin password field (which I would STRONGLY advise against using as a sandbox for testing random typing) there is no reliable way in the BIOS to test if this issue occurs or not.

In my experience the characters that are missed most often are "e" and "h", though this is really just a feeling.

I did a clean windows 10 pro installation from another media (not lenovo oem) but it did not help. Sometimes it might miss 2 or even 3 first letters from the first word I start typing after a break.

Dear customers,

we are sorry about bad keyboard responsiveness on your X1 Extreme Gen2 systems.

In order to confirm BIOS level keystrokes work properly or not, you can use the UEFI diagnostic program by pressing F10 key at POST.

When start UEFI dignostic program, select 3 for keybord test, then select "Key Test" to validate your typing.

Re: X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

Not sure if it is good news or bad news, but after playing around for 30 minutes in the UEFI diagnostic program this issue did not happen even just nce. Each and every keystroke was registered and appeared in the text field. Howver, now that I am back in Windows, I already had several misses, even in this short paragraph that I am typing now. I am purposefully not correcting them. I will highlight all misses with red when I am done typing this post.

1. Press F10 at POST to load UEFI Diagnostics. You migt need to press Fn+F10 or Ctrl+F10, depending on how you have your Fn key setup. I am actually very surprised by that, I did not expect this setting to carry over to UEFI/POST, I thought it is just a setting in Windows (in the Lenovo Vantage settings). So in my case it was Ctrl+F10, though I am not 100%, I was pretty much pressing key combos frantically after having booted into Windows 3 times in a row and then restarting again.

2. Unselect USB Kyboard and only have PS/2 Keyboard selected at the Device Selection screen. Press C to confirm. I missed this the first time and was not able to exit the test even after connecting a USB keyboard and pressing ESC 3 times.

3. Deselect PS/2 Test and only have Key Test selected at the Algorithm Selection screen. C to confirm.

4. Type away and don't worry about some keys never getting highlighted, they do not exist on the built-in keyboard (e.g. Menu).

5. Exit the ky test by pressing ESC or F3 three times if you want to run other tests or just power off the computer when you are done.

E missed three times, O missed once, H missed once. I mentioned earlier that it was mostly Es and Hs that are being missed, this short post confirmed that, along with the additional O. I am typing on an external keyboard 90% of the time and no keystroke is being missed, so the issue is not with my typing.

The keyboard is missing key presses in the test mode.

I was about to order that laptop and I just found that thread which stopped me from ordering :(. I hope Lenovo will give us soon some official response about current situation and reason behind that problem. It does not sound good if people can reproduce it even in the BIOS.
