Re: X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

2020-02-07, 12:51 PM

I also received a private message from Lenovo employee this morning. I don't know why they are so cryptic about things and not post any information here but I can give you a slight bit of hint on what's going on at the moment. He apologized the silence and said the team has managed to backtrack something that might be related to the problem. He said they think it's in the Embedded Controller and is related to signal pulse width and sense timing. Which are something that people in this topic has been aware. The team has now created a firmware for X1 Gen2 which is th same ECFW used in X1 Gen1. I received a download link to that firmware and the employee asked me to install it and test it. And he asked me to proide feedback on the results by Feb 12. so that might be some milestone on their nd. He asked me to not share the ECFW download link so I'm not gonna o it. I posted this message with my X1 and as you can see there is few missed keypresses which are underlined. It is too early to say anything yet as TomDenmark reported he's issues are gone so it might be on my end, if I didn't press the key enough etc. but we'll see. I'll report here how it's gonna go. A sidenote the BIOS update had no impact on the CPU's GPU usage on idle, videos stutter while moving mouse but I think this update was purely for the keyboard issue as they stated on the firmware's change log.

So it is a problem of controller/wave as I told before...

Yesterday I started the second service request because they don't give the refund before at least 2 services, and if the things will go as the first service I will have my laptop in more then 10 days from monday (when fedex arrive)....

So what I should do now....

Thank you for posting these information here. I hope Lenovo breaks their official silence soon and updates us with information about whats currently going on. (Even if it's not a working solution)

Wanna test it too. Missing Keystrokes are really annoying.

I am not asked for a refund yet is only because:

- I brought the notebook for a very good launch price. New, Core i7, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB, 4K IPS X-Rite color calibrated, with three-year warranty on-site with accidental damage protection included and a professional backpack: USD 2.315. Now it costs 10% more.

- The refund process involves "detecting the failure", sending the Notebook to a laboratory for 3 labor days, something that Lenovo hasn't even recognized officially

So, I decided to keep the Notebook and wait for a fix. Sooner or later, it will be available, Hardware or Software. The problem is really annoying, but I can live with it for a few days more.
