Re: X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

Andy,

Is there a procedure I need to follow to receive the firmware?  I have Premier support, but I can't be without a machine for work.

Thanks,

Will

@Andy_Lenovo we understand, that Lenovo probably testing some solutions, however, we'd like to see more transparency about the process. It currently lasts 3+ months, so, it would be great to hear about at least some interim results and some estimates.
But while Lenovo keeps silent, people getting nervous, about future of their significant investments. Last word from Lenovo here, was >2 months ago, and no any update from that time, excluding you nice recommendation to take time, and review the conversation.
So, please understand our intentions to get some more information, with any available ways, for example, pushing support, as an option... Since there are not many other options to do that...

Andy, thanks for joining us. Note that the firmware does not solve the physical key problem. The corner of any key allows the key to be pressed down to become flush with the keyboard tray but does not register a key stroke. This is most troublesome when typing quickly as your finger presses on the edge of some keys instead of the exact center.

I see conflicting pieces of information. As I understand it, your diagnostics scenario fixed the keystroke problem, which you designed a test of pressing each key 32 times with certain sequential conditions. However, you highlighted in red the missed keystrokes, so the keyboard remains dysfunctional, it seems.?????

The red highlighted missed keystrokes were from my post from 3 months ago.

Dear Morozam (sorry about spelling);

Thank you. I second your comment, and also want tAndy to kindly note that any decision or direction that Lenovo takes MUST consider that I, as most of us, need their computers daily for their livelihood. I am lucky that I have my Thinkpad T510, circa 2009, which is perfectly operational after daily, extensive use.

Correct. That's why I buy Premier Support on this type of machines. If I make errors in my day work, I also need to fix them and it better not take 3 months.

I'm seriously getting annoyed by the lack of any official feedback. Return-period over or not, if Lenovo will not address this issue quickly, I will file an issue with support when I'm home from travelling. If that won't help after several attempts, I will file official complaint. Not sure if Lenovo is aware of EU laws that protect customers and their investments, but they will be afterwards.

Thank you cleeren, I will commit to the same (from Canada). I had to go wait over a month from purchase to receive the device and now I have to wait over a month for replacement. If the replacement doesn't resolve the issue Lenovo can refund me in full regardless of return window as I raised this issue immediat after receiving the device.

That is exactly what needs to be done! I would like to do the same in the states. I will research  the procedure here to formally complain ......

BTW Are these built in China, do you know? I know that IBM ended their partnership a couple years after I got my Thinkpad T510 in 2009.  SO, perhaps it is a split venture which survived geographically. I don't have the time to research it. Just tell me they are not built and tested in Wah-Se (?), the coronavirus ground zero city. Ha. Well, not ha.

Where anything is built, is irrelevant to warranty required to be given by any seller. The location where it is purchased, matters. In the EU, when a product can not be repared to work correctly (top of mind after 3 repairs), the supplier is obliged to replace with a new unit.

Of course, in this case, that would probably not even help...
