Re: X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

@Dohmen

I also have to unit with Core i9, OLED etc. All is maxed out. Fan ist the most time "Off" or very quiet. Only on heavy Load (3Ds Max Rendering) Fan goes to max, as it should. Battery Life is about 5 hours.

There are some other Problems with the Model:

- DPC. I have Audio Problems, short cracks, delays etc. Especially if i use WLAN (load Website etc.) Even BT Audio is affected by this, even to loosing sound/connection. The Whole System is sometimes just "laggy". The rest is fine. CPU, GPU etc. All i fast and cool. Even simultanous using of GPU and CPU is fine. (GPU always above 1600 MHz and CPU above 3000 MHz (all Cores)) I like this system, but these lags, keyboard problems and, of couse, WLAN Whitelist are destroying this lovely system.

Hope Lenovo will fix that Problems soon. I spent over 4000,- $ for this, and still, after months of release, ist full of bugs. Does Lenovo not have QS?

Could be very useful if all of you record a video like the ones I recorded:

Dear Nicholasq; I was worried about that, as a matter of fact. I stick to the facts as well as I can, but I am quite aware that the solution to this debacle is going to be expensive to the company, and heads could roll, and stock could feel reverberations. That is sad. Everyone makes mistakes. But owners are also very sad. What is the "right" thing to do, is the question.

Thank you for your heads up, you are correct to see that.

Would you suggest that Lenovo provide X1G2 owners with an external keyboard as a solution? Interesting, relatively cheap workaround.

I for one would not accept that as a solution. If I want an external keyboard on a laptop, I'll get a desktop :-)

An external Keyboard is no option. I bought the Thinkpad because of the good keyboard. If i prefer to use an external device, i dont buy a Thinkpad. I have hope that Lenovo will provide a fix for the keyboard and the Sound/DPC Lags. If not, thx to germany and their law, i will return the device and get a refund. For that money iam not willing to accept these bugs/failures.

The second keyboard idea came from Abbossard, who seems OK with schlepping around a second keyboard.

But I do not want a second keyboard. It would use up footprint space, require MORE cleaning , fix it or replace it when it breaks, etc.. (Abbossard, you are a saint.)  The definition of a LAPTOP includes a built in keyboard.. An external keyboard is an optional peripheral device.

I am glad to uncover the resistance/dislike of that idea.

Re: X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

I filed a support ticket about the missing keystrokes, and want to report on how it went, so that you know what to expect if you go the same way.

In the support ticket, I referred to this forum. I mentioned that I had received and applied BIOS and EC firmware updates, as recommended in this thread. I mentioned that the missing keystrokes were now specific to the keys O, P, N and left click.

The rep from Lenovo came and replaced the keyboard. Service was fast and professional.

The new keyboard works very much like the former, that is poorly: some of the keys do not register the keystroke if they are not hit at their center. I still have missing keystrokes with O, P, N. The left click works better.

I mentioned that the problem was not fixed and Lenovo wanted to upgrade the main board. I declined. I think they should look source their keyboards from another supplier and once they have a quality keyboard they should recall the current ones. Lenovo used to have the best quality keyboards.
