Chanced upon this thread while troubleshooting this issue.

Had a similar experience where keys would go missing every 10-20 letters or so while typing at a fairly quick pace.

Its incredibly frustrating and it disrupts my flow at work, having to backspace and re-enter the words again. I'm sure I pressed the keys right down while typing, as I can feel the bottom of the keyboard.

have updated to BIOS v1.29 latest via Lenovo Vantage, and now trying USB selective suspend disabled, this issue is still prevalent, even as I'm typing this right now.

Lenovo support, please address this asap, this laptop is advertised by your company as extreme in terms of performance, not performance issues.

This issue is/was resolved in BIOS v1.30. But for some reason this version is pulled by Lenovo.

I assume 1.30 introduced other issues and it was "recalled."

Since the upgrade my Trackpoint+Mousekeys occasionally stop working. Maybe that correlates ?

Mine too. Again, it's the situation like with keystrokes, you press it once and it doesn't work, then you repeat and it works. And you start wondering whether the first time was maybe you touching the trackpad not firm enough.

Now, since you brought it up, it's time to conduct some more observations.

Lenovo pulled the BIOS 1.30, with the keyboard fix.

Instead, re-released today the older BIOS 1.29, but with the new ECFW 1.22, that also fixes the issue.

https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n2ouj11w.txt

I assume that BIOS 1.30 introduced a problem, and that was the reason it was recalled.

Personally, I don't have any problem at all with the 1.30 BIOS, and my Notebook it's working so good since I installed it, that I am not downgrading to the old 1.29 BIOS.

"If ain't broke, don't fix it".

Please Lenovo, clarify why you pull the 1.30 BIOS Update.

I also have the exact same issue. I cann't believe Thinkpads are full of such issues. This X1E Gen2 is my 4th Thinkpad and other 3 are still running. After having keboard issues, I am using Thinkpad Yoga 14 (gen1 probably) and you cann't compare between these two keyboards; older feels so much better.

@joloriquelme That's interesting. How did you come by that link? On Lenovo's pcsupport website, the only recent BIOS update shown is 1.29, not the newly-released 1.29-1.22 that you are mentioning.
