Re:X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

...try very fast typing. My X1E2 came with the same bios 1.28. It was hardly detectable to me, just a very few keys missed, I just was wondering whether it was me making mistakes. I still don't know, may be I'm affected by this discussion. By the way, now I'm on 1.31 and would say I'm satisfied....

Re:X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

Some days ago I tried to write at my normal velocity and I notice that I only lost the keystrokes in the keys that i pushed in the wrong way (near corner). I don't know, my father types very fast and he said to me he has had no problems with bios 1.28 so far (only 1 weeks). I think there are different problem because in this discussion someone lost a lot of keystrokes writing 2 or 3 lines of text here to reply in the forum, and this was a serious problem. We'll see and I will monitor this.

yes, it could be for me too. I'm coming from a Dell with a different keyboard layout, with very close keys...I'm in the adaptive stage :-))

A quick question to 1.30 BIOS users - does the keyboard backlight (FN + SPACEBAR) work for you?

What's the current verdict? should we update to 1.31 bios? or stay in 1.30?

Stay. My notebook is working fine with 1.30: no missing keystrokes.

Also, 1.31 is not critical according to Lenovo so, do NOT update.

Re:X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

So I have put in a ticket with Premier Support last week. This Monday, the entire chassis (in which the keyboard is fixed) was replaced. The difference is absolutely shocking.

  • The laptop now finally types like a "real" Thinkpad should type. Better travel on the keys, they don't feel as "soft" anymore. Before, it felt as if I was typing on a cheap laptop, now it types so much more comfortable.
  • Before, when I opened the screen, I could hear a shrieking sound coming from the hinge of the screen. Gone now as well (that part too was replaced as part of the chassis).
  • Before, the base plate (bottom of the laptop) was not really fixed into the rest of the laptop. Also gone, it feels sturdy now.

Bottom line: there were a lot of things wrong with the laptop (although they might say there weren't any issues). Now, it's all solved, I believe this to be the proof. I recommend that if you have any of the above issues with yours putting in a call to have things replaced.
