So I have put in a ticket with Premier Support last week. This Monday, the entire chassis (in which the keyboard is fixed) was replaced. The difference is absolutely shocking.

  • The laptop now finally types like a "real" Thinkpad should type. Better travel on the keys, they don't feel as "soft" anymore. Before, it felt as if I was typing on a cheap laptop, now it types so much more comfortable.
  • Before, when I opened the screen, I could hear a shrieking sound coming from the hinge of the screen. Gone now as well (that part too was replaced as part of the chassis).
  • Before, the base plate (bottom of the laptop) was not really fixed into the rest of the laptop. Also gone, it feels sturdy now.

Bottom line: there were a lot of things wrong with the laptop (although they might say there weren't any issues). Now, it's all solved, I believe this to be the proof. I recommend that if you have any of the above issues with yours putting in a call to have things replaced.

confused. That's a physical defect, not a firmware one. Can you tell the model ?

Did you have missing keystroke or just a bad/unconfortable typing experience?

Interesting to know your experience. In my case, I tried to explain several times to IT support that one of my keys is not behaving correctly but they stated that it works as designed and refused to replace the keyboard. The keyboar feels "soft" and it seems like you are typing on a cheap laptop. Maybe the problem here is that you need to pay for a "premier support" in order to have a minimun attention.Very dissapointed with Lenovo and it's support.

@ gillcleeren1

They probably swapped your whole device. Do you have any original documents to see if serial numbers match? You can see the unique device serial in Vantage as well all the other hardware specs. Does your device has the same specs as it had when you bought it? Same processor, same RAM etc. I remember one person posted last year that he gotten a P1 case from repo (which is visually the same as X1 Extreme) and specs didn't match with the original device. I find it hard to believe that they would have fixed all those things as well, so that why I'm thinking it might be recycled.

It seems they replaced the chassis ...leaving up the same /original keyboard.

So assuming the missing keys are addressed to the shell of the keyboard, not the keyboard itself, not even the firmware.

What's the bios running down?

For those who still have the keystrokes missing issue, did you try to downgrade to BIOS 1.30?

I insist: my keyboard is working fine since I did the downgrade from 1.31 to 1.30.

Remember that I can sent you that BIOS via PM.

In my case, at least 2 keys never worked well. I had to press them multiple times to register a keystroke, in all the bios lenovo released

I'm on 1.31 and missing keystrokes is rare. Can't figure out if I jumped the press or whatever. Can stay with it.

1.30 has been withdrawn and we don't know why.

@nicosponziello

so it's a physical  /pure hardware failure

With 1.31 I had rarely one, but it happened. With 1.30 no missing keyboard at all. Not a single one. Seriously. 1.30 was pulled because Lenovo only makes available the latest update. I always save the previous drivers installers on my HDD 'just in case'.

No, just the chassis was replaced. As I have premier, next-day on site support, they came over and did the replacement while sitting next to me.

To be clear: the chassis is fixed to the keyboard, the baseplate (bottom of laptop) was NOT replaced. Chassis = keyboard + entire "top" of laptop + all sides.

That's pretty much what I had. Missing keys + problems with the bottom row (space bar etc) + very bad typing experience. Not what I expect from an expensive Thinkpad.
