so, exactly same 1.31 typing experience, rare missing but missing somehow.

With 1.30 no missing keyboard at all. Not a single one. Seriously.1.30 was pulled because Lenovo only makes available the latest update. I always save the previous drivers installers on my HDD 'just in case'.

It's true only latest updates are made available, but the BIOS.

Click on the icon in the red circle, then scroll down the page to the bottom, you'll find the full download link.

For other drivers copy the download link from from a current release, then just replace the release name in the address bar with the one you 're looking for.

BIOS 1.30 is the only one withdrawn. Don't ask me way. The others are all available for download.

That said, I remain very disappointed, and evaluating to switch on MAC.

No, just the chassis was replaced. As I have premier, next-day on site support, they came over and did the replacement while sitting next to me.

To be clear: the chassis is fixed to the keyboard, the baseplate (bottom of laptop) was NOT replaced. Chassis = keyboard + entire "top" of laptop + all sides.

didn't know that, very interesting. So the mechanical is ok.

Since you have solved, may be sharing what BIOS release you currently use could help others.

Or your suggestion is to have the chassis replacement, whatever the Bios?

Sure, happy to help.

I'm on 1.30. I'm going to stay on that one for now :)

But to be clear: the "feel" of the typing experience on this keyboard is TOTALLY different. I've been using Thinkpads for I don't know how many years. Always loved how smooth the typing experience was, you could always feel the quality of the machine.

With this one, it wasn't there. The typing experience felt cheap, the keys were noisy and it did not feel link a Thinkpad at all. Also, like I mentioned, when I opened the lid, a creaking sound always came from within the hinge and also the bottom plate wasn't really fitting well into the chassis.

ALL these issues have been resolved. Note that all these issues relate to the chassis (the connection with the screen as well as how the screws at the bottom fit in the chassis).

I just worked an entire day on the machine, lots of typing and it now finally feels like a decent Thinkpad.

For those on 1.30 and 1.31, can you help to do this test? https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/9ivh0u/thinkpad_keyboards_measurement_of_polling_lag_and/

Or try pressing the "k" and "l" keys simultaneously and see if it always returns "lk" and never "kl"? Most ThinkPads will return only "lk" due to the polling lag issue as described on the Reddit post. Maybe 1.30 fixes the polling lag and 1.31 reverts it back to the "typical" ThinkPad behaviour...

Re:X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

Hello to everyone,

After expending a lot of time in the depot service, trying to explain my problem due to incorrect operation of one of my keys, I decided to upgrade my warranty to the “Premiere support”.

One of the keys of my keyboard was giving me problems, that is, when I was pressing at the edge of the key, the keystroke was not fully working. The keys where “soft”, and the general impressions of the keyboard wasn’t really the best one.

So, I called to an expert technician to explain my case using the Premiere support line. He directly understands my needs and sent a technician to replace the keyboard. The technician needs some time to replace the keyboard, because it is attached to the chassis and he needed to remove the entire components.

The new keyboard is a night and day in comparision with the previous one. The keys are robust, no problems pressing on the edge of the keys, no missing keystrokes anymore. Everything is working like a real Thinkpad should.

In my opinion, the problem is a faulty keyboard. If you “feel” that you are just typing correctly and your keyboard is not responding well, you have a faulty one. The problem is that depot tries to fool you to not replace the keyboard because they need a lot of time to do it.

I hope my experience is good for you.

Regards.

Hi, I want to update my 2020-07-09 comment about the keyboard. My father has told me his X1E2 missed some "t" today running 1.28 BIOS. This evening I have updated his laptop directly to 1.29-1.22, that is the first Embedded that fixed the keystrokes problem (similar to pulled 1.30) and I will monitor it. Now, IMHO the keyboard i tried seems to be a very good quality keyboard, so the quality of the keys probably has improved in 2020. We have to know if there is a hardware quality of the keyboard AND a software problem or if they are related. For example, @Chispas_elek, what bios are you running now? Thanks

Hello,

I'm running the 1.31 version, the last one.

Seriously, is not a problem with the BIOS. This is 100% a hardware related issue.

Regards.

Probably if anyone tried the new keyboard with 1.28 bios for some day, we will 100%. I know it is a very annoying test.

I'm on 1.31 too and very rare missing keys...but NOT sure if addressable to typing mistake

I'm going paranoid for sure, but wheter it was an hw related issue why did Lenovo released more Bios to fix...to fix what?

The final resolution should be to check keyboards hw id / supplier or whethever to detect to good vs bad equipments.

Quite sure Lenovo is aware of that and shoud know how to proceed...but commercial policies are over all
