Re:X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

2020-07-24, 21:24 PM

Thanks Joloriquelme. Yes, but recently there was some doubts. Very curious the focus relatively to the electrostatic issue of the keyboard, I would never have said that! Now, if the ECFW 1.22 is the best, I hope Lenovo will update the bios maintaing this EC. Now there is the last mistery about the problem of keystrokes reported only using two SSDs. Two users in page 78 and 79 of this thread talk bout this problem, I think (and hope) only in 1.31-1.23. Maybe the problem was caused by 1.31 and not 1.29/1.30-1.22.

Anyway, I feel lucky to have bought this computer for my father a month ago, I want to be in solidarity with all X1E2 buyers in the period between July 2019 and March 2020, you have won the Olympics of patience ... this is not a trivial problem. However I will ask him a feedback during the next week because now he is using 1.29-1.22.

Just as FYI, both the original (and thus faulty) keyboard and its replacement (the good one) have the Atmos logo for me.

Re:X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

Hello,

Yes, not all the Dolby atmos based keyboards are working properly, but the new ones for sure are working very well. My new keyboard is fantastic, even if I press the keys softly or in the corner the keyboard will recognise the keystroke.

From my point of view, if you are losing keystrokes because your keyboard can't recognise a keystroke when you press a key softly or in the cornet, then you have for sure a faulty keyboard.

I have 1.31 installed on my laptop. It doesn't matter how I press my keys, they are always working. Pressing in the edge of the key works, pressing softly works, writing at normal speed works.

If you have 1.30 or 1.31 installed and you are facing problems, please follow your guts, you have a faulty keyboard. The problem is that a Lenovo technician needs ~1h or more to replace the entire keyboard because it needs to disassembly everything. It not complicated but it requires time.

Regards.

Chispas_elek or gillcleeren1, can you check on support.lenovo.com part number for the keyboard that you currenly have installed and that you confirm works?

Thank You!

I couldn't try the 1.31-1.22 combination because the link Lenovo privately sent me doesn't work anymore.

I am waiting instructions from Rydeen.

In the meantime, I will stay with 1.30 BIOS.

I just contacted Lenovo support again to report the issue, hoping I can get the keyboard replaced.

Lenovo support asked me to reinstall device drivers and if that doesn't help then reinstall whole Windows system and wipe hard drive.

Hilarious.

Re:X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

does anyone have issues with a lag that comes every 30 secs and last for about half a second? like moving the mouse, typing, scrolling, just anything. the screen will freeze for about half a second and then update to where you moved your mouse or whatever. i'm CONSTANTLY getting this. i don't get it on linux though.

update edit: I realize this actually has nothing to do with the keyboard. it's actually the whole os or screen itself that freezes for half a second. i opened nvidia's control panel where it has the nvidia logo spinning and you can make adjustments to graphical settings. well if i sit and watch it, the logo will stutter every 30 seconds or so. so it's either something like a cpu throttle or gpu issue. not sure. anybody else have this? btw i do have 2 SSDs connected (saw people mentioning this)

second update:
so i fired up intel extreme tuning utility and went to core tab and watched the cpu core temperature and throttling. i moved my mouse around in a circle for about a minute and got the lag. i noticed when that happened, the 'package temperature' shot up to 71*C and the 'Power limit throttling' turned on. so this definitely a throttling issue. VERY ANNOYING.

It is a known NVIDIA Optimus (hybrid graphics) issue. I had it on another Asus laptop.

You can resolve this by using this little app.

Re:X1 Extreme Gen 2 missing keystrokes

Spent a week after getting the keyboard replaced on the 1.30 bios from joloriquelme . So far so good no more missing keystrokes.

Also downgraded the thermal driver from *.356 to *.340, disabled the intel GPU in bios and undervolted the CPU to -130mv. The iddle temperature  is 40 degrees, rising up to 50-60 on light to middle load and maxing 97 degrees on stress testing. There is alsmost no fan sound if the temperature is below 70 degrees, although the upper part of the keyboard above the F keys is becomes slightly hot.

Disabling the intergated gpu removes all lags and glitches and significantly improves graphics performance, because the hybrid graphics swithing doesn't always work as expected.

If you don't need long battery life, these settings are optimal in my opinion.
