X1 Extreme Gen 2 unable to update Intel drivers

2020-04-20, 15:20 PM

Currently, I have the Intel UHD Graphics 630 driver version 26.20.100.7529, and the Intel Driver & Support Assistant has been saying for a while now that there is an available update:

However, when I try to update the driver, I get this message. Has anyone with this machine been able to successfully update to the x.x.x.7985 driver version (or any newer version) or know why I get this message?

If I uninstall the Intel driver through Device Manager and try to install the new version through Intel's website, I get a new message saying "This operating system is not supported."

BTW, I wouldn't use that drivers. They are a reference only and maybe are not optimized for this particular Notebook.

In fact, there is a know problem with a latest generic release from Windows Update that broke the max brightness.

I would only use the official Lenovo drivers, from the support page, for all the devices on the Notebook.

Thanks for the reply, @joloriquelme. Interestingly, even with the older official Lenovo update (26.20.100.7529), my max brightness was only 241 nits (I have the 500-nit FHD IPS panel). I managed to manually install the newer update I mentioned, and my max brightness is now reported as 301 nits (still not good).

EDIT: Weird. The DisplayHDR Test reports it as being brighter but it is actually much dimmer (both the x.x.x.7811 and x.x.x.7985) compared to the previous x.x.x.7529 driver. Is there a more accurate and reliable way to test screen brightness?

X1 Extreme G2, same issue with a dimmer display after Windows update installed 'Intel Corporation Display 26.20.100.7811 over my previous Lenovo driver 26.20.100.7529.How do you stop Windows updating again over after rolling back to 26.20.100.7529 Lenovo release?

It doesn't automatically update for me. I initially installed it through Windows Update, saw my max brightness was lower, and rolled back through device manager. Windows Update didn't push the x.x.x.7811 update further.

thanks dtian88, I confirm the -7811 was pushed down by wu and installed over the -7529 Lenovo driver release. The Lenovo drive was previously updated by Vantage.

Don't know what the culprit is  but the rollback options in the device manager is currently greyed out, so not available.

That's a different behaviour from your system. May be updating/downgrading through Intel utilities left you the option to rollback from device manager.

Any update from Lenovo out there? Since the -7529 was released on 2019 december then could it be time to update the driver and override Intel dch release?
