I'm pretty sure this will fix it, let us know how it went down :)

I will look into this, I have an X1 2nd gen with an i9 but with a 500 nits FHD screen and terrible battery life.

I will check and update the video driver if necessary. I also see it beginning at 4 hours and dropping very fast to 2 hours when I start using it.

I can confirm that updating nvidia drivers directly from nvidia to latest (slightly) increases battery life. currently, with battery charged at 95%, it estimates around 5h. this however after much tweaking (disabling services etc), on 'better battery mode' and brightness down to approx. 65%.

Strange, do you have the 4k disply?

I have the 500 nit FHD and after the driver update I get 10 hours of netflix playback.

yep, it's the 4K. again, do consider this is the average estimate depending on the work load.

at best i've been able to get 6h since updating the nvidia. on any note, an increase from previous version (even while doing the disabling/re-enabling the card on device manager).

I thought the GPU is only used when needed, like when gaming so I'm not sure if Nvidia drivers have anything to do with battery life when doing something other than gaming or some other GPU based heavy tasks. I updated the Nvidia drivers today from Vantage so we'll see. 4K OLED here.

there seems to be a bug where the discrete nvidia gpu is active even when it shouldn't be and this of course costs battery life

Okay I'll see what you mean. If I look from Task manager processes tab there is a GPU which has load on it. I thought at first that it meant the Nvidia card but when I look the performance tab instead, there is shown that the GPU tab is for Intel graphics and GPU1 would be for Nvidia which is not shown on the Process tab and that GPU1 is at 0% for me always when not gaming. Just my thoughts if you confuse this Task manager GPU workload on the dedicated graphics usage.
