I would love to know how you got your X1E to go above 80C. There are multiple reports of the machine being unable to go past 80C without thermal throttling, my machine included. No amount of BIOS/XTU tweaking has allowed me to go above 80C.

Believe me, I wish I had an answer! When I first removed the factory paste, there were a lot of pockets, as if it wasn't applied properly. So I added the graphite pad. This showed no improvement, if anything it was worse. When I took the fans off to add the MX-4, I paid close attention to make sure the pads didnt move, which they didnt. So I believe it was the factory paste and graphite pads that were causing all the issues. Now the X1 runs as cool as a clam.

usually factory thermal material is used to excess which itself problematic
TIM should be very thin as the needs are only to fill voids

Thanks for the read! I'm just happy this little repair is yielding fantastic results. I guess after a few on and off cycles it should improve just a smidge. So I'll retest. I haven't used my laptop in the last few days.
