X1 Extreme - Keyboard issue

2020-03-30, 14:32 PM

Hiya,

got a brand new X1 Extreme, and I'm quite disappointed with the keyboard:

Once the 'pressure point' is clearly passed it still does not mean the a mouse click happens or a character appears on the screen. One really has to hammer the keyboard to get it working.

I'm using ThinkPads since the mid 90's and never experienced this so far.

Anyone with the same issues?

Cheers!

Same problem here and it's not just one or two keys. I've never experienced this with any other machine. It's extremely frustrating as the keyboard is one of the things highly touted on Lenovo's. Might be sending mine back here real soon.

X1 Extreme Gen 2 with same issue, keyboard missing keystrokes and having to push on the key letter some times several times to get it to register (pretty regular occurrence). Very. Very. annoying having to re-check critically what you've typed because you cant trust the keyboards missed a letter.

Thank you for sharing your 'insights' as well. The normal X1 gen 7 had the same problem as a friend told me.

I will open a warranty claim for this, lets see.

A Software fix (ECFW Update) is coming. I am using it and it resolves the issue.

What is EFCW? I have already updated the BIOS to the latest available,  and, as I'm using openSUSE Tumbleweed, latest software is always on board.

Look this thread:

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Extreme-Gen-2-missing-keystrokes/m-p/4569936

We are having this issue since day 1, five months ago. We pressured Lenovo very hard.

After months, Lenovo sent me internally (via forum's private message) a new test fix that actually works.

ECFW is the Embedded controller firmware. It is part of BIOS.

I suspect Lenovo will release this new update to general availability very soon.

Seen the thread in between, thanks.

I was in contact with the Lenovo support today, they have no clue about a release date for a new BIOS. Instead, they want to change the keyboard....I just fear that wont help.

[Solved] X1 Extreme - Keyboard issue

2020-04-16, 7:26 AM

In between  have the keyboard replaced, and it is much better. Esp. the mouse buttons work now as they should. So it seems more to be a mechanical problem with the short hubs.
