X1 Extreme Losing All Application Data During Sleep

When I leave my X1 Extreme to sleep for an extended period of time, it loses all of my open applications. This doesn't behave like a standard sleep mode, it behaves more like a hibernate with the Lenovo logo appearing on resume but none of my open applications are there so any unsaved data is lost.

Re: X1 Extreme Losing All Application Data During Sleep

Not to be silly, but does this mean it's just shutting down instead?

Re: X1 Extreme Losing All Application Data During Sleep

It could be, but since it starts up when I open the lid I assumed it was resuming from sleep/hibernate.

Re: X1 Extreme Losing All Application Data During Sleep

AFAIK, Modern Standby will start the laptop when the lid is opened.

However, you could run a sleep report (from the top post on this page: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-6th-Gen-Battery-drain-in-sleep/m-p/...), and see what is the laptop actually doing when you tell it to standby.

Re: X1 Extreme Losing All Application Data During Sleep

Thanks for your suggestion.

This may be the same issue but in my case not hibernating and just shutting down. It also occurred to me that it may be a windows 10 update installing. So i at least have some grounds to troubleshoot on.

1. Battery Drain - hibernate fallback from modern standby

2. Windows update

3. energy report

Did you resolve this problem somehow ? I just buy this laptop and this is the first annoying thing I found

No resolution. It still happens every once in a while. I save often but it's annoying that I lose all my open reference material.
Unfortunately, this means that the machine is not trustworthy.

Have you contacted Lenovo?

I haven't. I haven't been able to reproduce the problem consistently.

I do not understand why the X1E automatically starts when the lid is opened. This weekend my laptop was cold when we got home (despite being in a heated car); I opened the lid just to allow warm air of the house to circulate better around the laptop and to give it a few minutes to warm up before turning it on (may have been unnecessary but anyway...).

To my surprise, the laptop started up as soon as I opened the lid which was the last thing I wanted.

My XPS 15 did not exhibit this behavior.
