X1 Extreme Mouse (Trackpoint & Touchpad) Freezing on DAY 1

2018-11-28, 14:56 PM

Hello everyone, first post on here!

Got a X1 Extreme, Maxed out the options, soon as I got it I ran windows update and the lenovo updates.

The problem I am having is the mouse will freeze randomly, at first it was doing it after 10-15 minutes, now it takes a while for it to

happen.

I only use Trackpoint, but at first it disabled the trackpoint and touchpad, but a physical Bluetooth mouse would still work and touch screen and keyboard would work.

Now it seems last time The Bluetooth mouse also didn't work, but keyboard and Touch Screen did.

Very ODD Behavior, I uninstalled and reinstalled the Drivers, I also turned off REALTEK Audio which I heard is a issue and reinstalled it.

I also Installed all the touchpad, ultranav etc apps from support.lenovo website just to mess with the settings. Once I noticed when the trackpoint stopped working, it was actually disabled on the system somehow.

Anyways I would love to fix this issue on my own because I bet Tech Support wont know about this issue and throw me in circles.

I feel as though this wouldnt be happening on a Stock Brand new Laptop, so it must be one of the Windows Updates messing with it.

Far as Specs it is a i7-8850h, 64mb Ram, 1 TB ssd, 4k Screen, Lets see if someone can help me =)

Just got my X1 Extreme yesterday and had the same issue. I had to connect an external mouse to help me reboot. This is pretty annoying. I'm hoping it is just a firmware or driver issue and not a serious design flaw or a badly QA'ed machine.

Mine went away, I think it might have to do with me reinstalling the realtek drivers, I honestly don't know what I did that fixed it, maybe installing Ultra Nav and other touchpad driver/apps?

I literally downloaded and manually ran every Lenovo Update from the Support website.

I am going to backup and do a restore again and see if I can replicate the issue, I will use it before updates and then do each update and keep testing and hopefully diagnose the culprit, if there is that many people having the issue its not a defect, which is a good thing to hear, but annoying!

Lots of users on my post on reddit saying same thing.

I switch to Ubuntu since yesterday and I don't have any issues so far with the trackpoint or the trackpad. I guess it is driver related rather than hardware, which is a good news.

Ok Will give these a try on my USB Flash Drive, will it save Factory Condition Recovery image to my USB or how my pc currently is? Also what is the best way to goto the Factory Condition how the laptop was out of the box.

The best way is to reduce your windows partition and then to install ubuntu (one of easiest distro to start with) alongside the Windows installation (it will offer you the possibility).

UPDATE It eventually fixed itself on its own after first day (I THINK DUE TO REMOVING REALTEK AUDIO SOFTWARE), but I was curious to figure out exactly what caused it.

So I got a Copy of original Factory image from Lenovo, used it to format my computer back to Factory state. The issue is not happening at all, so it seems some of the updates caused this for sure.

I have a few updates that were forced by windows which I have attached, but as of now with the Windows Updates in the Image attached, it is not happening.

I am going to go one update at a time and use it for few hours and see if I can find which update is doing this. It might even be the Lenovo Updates.
