X1 Extreme - Thinkpad Pen Pro vs Active Pen 2

I think this is a simple question but no amount of research I have done in the forums has provided a clear explanation....is the Active Pen 2 just the next generation of the Thinkpad Pen Pro or is something else going on here. Trying to figure out which pen to spec with a couple of X1 Extreme's and I just want to confirm that the Active Pen 2 would be the latest and greatest??

Re: X1 Extreme - Thinkpad Pen Pro vs Active Pen 2

Think I might have found my answer in a somewhat obscure Lenovo Pen document:

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht500011

D. ThinkPad Pen Pro  (also known as Active Pen)

  • An active pen
  • Requires one AAAA battery
  • The largest size pen available
  • Always housed externally of the system
  • Can be stored with an external holder accessory that attaches to the USB port
  • Mouse-click input

Re: X1 Extreme - Thinkpad Pen Pro vs Active Pen 2

Active pen 2 does not work very well at all on the X1 extreme, I couldn't  make it work properly on photoshop and experience some lag overall. Quite a shame for a pen from the same constructor.

Re: X1 Extreme - Thinkpad Pen Pro vs Active Pen 2

We have both pens in our hands, make appears very similar and maybe made by same manufacturer:

a) Lenovo Active Pen 2, Part No. GX80N07825

b) Lenovo Pen Pro

A) Lenovo Active Pen 2

~Suspect that Wacom made this; included instruction manual noted that user had to download the Wacom app to make full use of its functionality!
~(1x AAAA battery + 2x very small button cell battery)

B) Lenovo Pen Pro

~USB-C charges internal battery

C) Both above pens works with our X1E1 (X1 Extreme Gen 1)

Daily Driver: X1 Extreme Gen 1 (X1E-1)
X1E-1, X1C-4, X1C-3, X250, X230, T410
Retired Thinkpads: T42, 560 (circa 1996)
Also: IBM Thinkpad era computer bag !

Re: X1 Extreme - Thinkpad Pen Pro vs Active Pen 2

Not for me, I've tried countless different wacom drivers, still can't make this bloody pen work on photoshop on the X1 extreme. I find it very unusual for lenovo releasing such a lame product not even compatible with it's own tactile screens -_-
