Re: X1 Gen2 512GB SSD drive -B Connector or B & M Connector? DOES IT MATTER??

malloy0,

the alternative might be an adapter from m.2 to SFF. But the chance to find it is "zero" as SFF is proprietary formfactor and is using in restricted laptop models..

Ok...again thanks. Can you point me to a link? Or given the chance is "zero" to find it it cannot be found?

Appreciate the info, but w/o a part # I am looking for a needle in a haystack. Yuo have a PN? Before you offer all of the info I have says that the connector is proprietary; however, am hoping that I can but a SSD that some might not think will work, but have tried, tested and it does work. Crazy I know. Added thoughts welcomed.

That's good, adapter you've found seems will work. Note the size of new m.2 SSD should be 22x30 mm or 22x40 mm maximum because of 22x80 SSD will not fit with that adapter into x1c. It will not allow to install the biggest m.2 SSDs on the market. Perhaps the drives 22x60 mm will fit too, there are 512 gb such drives.

I am counting on the 2260 size.

I ordered this

http://www.transcend-info.com/Products/No-643

Transcend 512 GB SATA III 6Gb/s MTS600 60 mm M.2 SSD (Up to 560MB/s read and 310MB/s write) TS512GMTS600

The adapter will take 7 days from China.

Will report progress in a 7-14 days.

Appreciate all of the help!

I hope you'll find a solution how to fix 60 mm drive to the adapter as the mounting (semi)hole on the drive seems is out of the adapter' sheet.

Well finally got all of the parts delivered to the house. Did the SSD cloing, installed the X1c to M.2 SSD adapter and the Transcend 512GB SSD and all is working super!

Transcend 512 GB SATA III 6Gb/s MTS600 60 m

M.2 NGFF SSD to 26pin adapter for Lenovo X1 Carbon Ultrabook

The only real issue is the attachment and it's not MFG approved, but works. See the pics for the visuals.

It's fantastic!
You are really a creative guy. As I can see on the 3rd photo adapter has been fitted end-to-end, w/o spacing at the right side. You are lucky.

It'll be a really pity if the photos will be moved from the page to the links because of they exceed forum's limited size.

Again, congrats!

UPD

your expirience is worthy for a separate thread here as your case doesn't match the thread header and can't be marked as a solution for the x1c gen2 owners. Perhaps community moderators will do something for that.
