Re: X1 Gen2 512GB SSD drive -B Connector or B & M Connector? DOES IT MATTER??

x220forMe, thank you. Honestly, I would have not been successful at this if it was not for your suggestions on the M.2 to X1c adapter. So I appreciate all of the help. I'll add that a super special thank you to Sintech for having the X1 to M.2 adapter even be manufactured. On a side note, I always am amazed at the worldwide assistance in these forums, so wish it was more like that in the "real" world. It would be a nicer and more pleasant place if so. Again, many thanks!

Hummm.....can you send pic? also, what is the length? Why?

Given  have the X1c and this does not have a std M.2 connector but a special connector, thus had to get a X1c to M.2 adapter, can only take a length of 60mm max.

See the pics at the bottom of page #2 of this thread.

malloy0,

Tks for showing that this method works.  I've just order the Transcend M.2 and the adapter per your suggestion.

Can you confirm that I need to use a glue gun to attach the M.2 (as it is 60mm long, whereby the adapter supports up to 42mm)?

lomboko,
Confirming the X1 Carbon SSD Adapter has a mounting hole for a M.2 SSD up to 42mm. I did not use this for the 500G Transcend M.2 SSD given this is 60mm. So the Transcend extends past the X1 Carbon SSD Adapter. I also removed the "screw" from the 42mm spot, that is shown in the photo of only the adapter. Also, I could not figure out a different or better mounting method, like using a screw, so that is why the wonderful glue gun glue was used. Just a dap 'il do ya. Hope this helps.

Re: X1 Gen2 512GB SSD drive -B Connector or B & M Connector? DOES IT MATTER??

Well, had a SSD failure on the Transcend 500G SSD today at 5 pm ET USA! Urgghh....not sure why. No hints of any issues.

So I put in the old Lenovo 256G X1 SSD and am working from this trying to get back to a full recovery. My company fortunately does online backups and 100,000 files later I might be able to get back to being fully recovered. I ordered a new Transcend off Amazon for $280. Ouch! Will start this all over the end of the week.

Lesson learned on doing backups!! I almost did a full image earlier today using Acronis TI 2014 of my 500G, but didn't.

So a word of advice to me, since this 500G SSD is not a standard piece of hardware, it probably would be a good thing to keep regular backups or images so this does not happen to anyone else.

Hi all,

I can confirm that the 512 GB transcend works with the posted adapter :)

Thanks a lot.

But I am looking for a better solution than thatone with the hot glue... Maybe I will try something with a 3D Print :)

Malloy0,

Any repeat failures on the HD?  I'm tempted to try your fix, but am afraid that the adapter would hose the drive.
