X1 Nano - Internal screen doesn't turn on if Infrared sensor fails to detect the person

2021-04-06, 19:07 PM

Hi all,

Here is an annoying issue on my brand new X1 nano with Win10 pro. I use external display via USB-C dock together with internal screen. There is some very smart software which is trying to detect the face via infrared sensor (i see red blinking when i get close by) during wake up from standby. However, when it fails to detect the face (maybe due to the distance from the laptop) internal screen remains OFF until i reboot the laptop which is very-very annoying.

Am I the only one having this problem? Any solutions other than "reboot" or even hard reboot? The thing is that the screen doesn't turn on even when I disconnect external display! Frustrating.

Thanks

Hello PNWBob,

Greetings

I suggest that you update the drivers and BIOS thru the support site.
Also, under BIOS, load the default settings then save before exiting.
Update us how it goes

Hi Lorenzo,

I have latest BIOS/Drivers according to Vantage software. I did bios settings reset to defaults but it didn't help: just few minutes back observed same issue. I closed the lid, waited for ~5 minutes and then opened the lid back to recover the display.

Kindly try the drivers from the support site, as there are times that the ones in the website are more updated.

You can try other ways of entering boot back aside from the camera like fingerprint reader and using pin.
See if that would be a good alternative after having these enabled.

This could be the same issue as mine : https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Nano-User-Presence-Detection-Zero-touch-login-problem/m-p/5077446

But in my case, it not fails to detect faces, it unlocks my session but the screen remain black (screen backlight is on).

With external screen connected, I can see my session is well unlocked, I can work on the external screen but laptop screen remains black.

I have no solution for now except disabling User Presence Sensing in Lenovo Vantage.

It maybe best if you can reach out to the technical support team so they would be able to check further on this.
Stay safe

Well, I reached them by chat, and they only propose me to send the laptop back. It is my work daily laptop, so this is not a solution for me.

I'm very sorry for the inconvenience.
However, there are advance troubleshooting which the tech support service can only perform since they'd be able to physically check the machine.
Kindly give them a chance to work on this to fully resolve the issue

Stay safe
