X1 Nano - Windows 10 clean install

2021-06-08, 5:02 AM

I am unable to find the driver Windows 10 (20H2) installer needs to see the SSD. I've tried the Intel chipset drivers available on the Lenovo support site, but no success.  Any ideas?

Hello muggle,

Welcome to Lenovo Community

Check updates for BIOS and drivers thru the same support site.
Try loading the BIOS default settings, be sure to save and exit.
Try again and update us how it goes

Hi Lorenzo, thanks for the suggestion, I did update the BIOS to 1.42 (the latest) as well as deactivated secureboot and all the other recommended BIOS settings when installing a new OS.  I also tried installing the Intel f6fly-x64 drivers and it still will not recognize the OEM Western Digital SSD.

Hello,

Are you using the power button to turn your machine off before attempting installation?

IF so, reenter Windows and repetitively use Power menu "RESTART" option, perhaps 3 times, then repetitively use "SHUTDOWN" option, also perhaps 3 times.  THEN once again don't use the power button to shutdown before software installation, use the Windows Power Menu and the mouse clicks.

I had an issue with pending updates, and perhaps pending suspend and hibernate status that required repetitive orderly shutdowns to clear out.  The power button provokes disorderly shutdowns, and hence disorderly start ups, that confuse the installation programs...  I am also convinced there is a slight difference between "RESTART" and "SHUTDOWN" methods.

I ended up having to resort to installing 21H21 rather than 20H2.  It's a shame that Lenovo hasn't posted the SSD storage driver since the X1 Nano has been out for more than 6 months.  Now my laptop is on a different version than what is supported by my IT department. :-(
