X1 Yoga 2nd gen OLED power saving / brightness is reset (Lenovo Settings)

2017-06-27, 7:41 AM

I have the following issues regarding the OLED brightness

  1. When I change the display configuration, e.g. attach the yoga to a 2nd monitor via Dock, flip the notebook into tablet mode, change screen orientation, wake up from standby.... In half of all cases, the brightness is reset: It shows like 50% brightness, but the screen is turned up to 100% and I have to manually re-adjust brightness. Very annoying!
  2. OLED "power saving modes" (e.g. reducing brightness of the taskbar) aren't persistent: If I restart the device, If I change the display configuration (see above for examples) - the OLED power saving settings seem to get lost and I have to restart Lenovo Settings in order to make them work again. Very annoying as well!

Using Windows 10 with most recent drivers supplied by lenovo companion. Happy to provide additional details.

Same exact thing here.  You seem to have all the same quirks my X1 Yoga 2nd Gen has so it's probably a widespread problem.

We were able to reproduce the problems.  I don't know a fix date yet, but we are working on it.  Sorry for this trouble.

The first issue is the video driver issue, need to wait for fix from Intel new video driver, we reported to Intel
And the second issue is fixed by Lenovo Setting, the relatedd component would be automatically updated.

Hello - I have the same issue on my X1 Yoga 2nd gen.  I see these posts were a year ago - it's now June 2018.  Is there a solution to this problem?

Re: X1 Yoga 2nd gen OLED power saving / brightness is reset (Lenovo Settings)

And I guess this is the proper place for me to chime in YET again.

For a very very long time (many months), whenever I restart my X1YogaG2-OLED from a previous shutdown or hibernate, the screen comes up at full brightness (100%), even though the system thinks and indicates it's at my default setting of 50%. When I manually change the screen brightness the screen follows what I set. (I use the battery indicator in the system tray. When I click on it the pop-up shows the brightness at 50%, even though it's really at full brighness. When I click on the button, it works as expected, raising the system brightness from the indicated 50% to 75%. This causes the screen to actually get dimmer, as it goes to 75% from the 100% it's really at. Four more clicks and I've cycled back to 50%, which is where I should have been to begin with).

When I wake from sleep, or manually reboot the computer, the brightness stays set to where it was (in my case, 50%). So it only happens when I've shut down or hibernated, but not when I wake from sleep or manually restart. Doesn't matter if I'm on AC power or battery.

This bug (which has gotten to be very annoying after all this time) has survived multiple Win10 updates, including the major updates, as well as mutliple updates to the Lenovo BIOS and the Intel Video drivers. I seem to remember that @someotherguy experienced the same thing way back when, but I don't recall every hearing of a solution, or at least something to check to help figure it out (and fix it).

This is toally independant from the current ChromaTune problems that X1Yoga people (me included) are having with the OLED and HDR screen models under the latest Win10. I was having this screen brighness problem even when ChromaTune was working perfectly.

Could someone from Lenovo PLEASE try to figure this out and fix it? Pretty please?

Billy

What is the version of your OS and video driver? what if you stop the IMController Service from service tab in task manager?

ThinkPad Yoga X1 2nd 20JDCTO1WW BIOS: N1NET41W 1.28

Windows 10 Pro, 1803, 17134.112

Intel HD Graphics 620 23.20.16.4973

When I stop the IMController Service (from service tab in task manager), it immediately restarts itself. If I stop it and quickly shut down, the screen brightness is still at 100% when I restart, not at the 50% it was at when I shut down.

Thanks for helping!

Dear hzfdbd,

I have exactly the same problem for a few month now. Same OS and video driver. Only my product number is different: 20JFCTO1WW.
I tried everything, but the problem remains. Any help is deeply appreciated. Thank you very much and best regards,

@hzfdbd : Any update? It's been over a week since I answered your questions, but still no progress?

Even if you just tell me that you're working on figuring it out. Nothing from Lenovo after almost a year of reporting the problem without any help or suggestions is not encouraging.

Please don't let this request for help die again.
