Re: X1 Yoga 3rd Gen Battery Life Less Than 8 Hours

i have the 500 nit x1 Carbon. I use it on mostly on 40-60% brightness. I get around 5-8 hours of battery. This revolves around mostly web browsing and word/excel. I guess this is normal b/c of the better screen display. I heard the advertised is for the lower screen display 300-nit i5 versions. If you have the i7 8550 or 8650 with HDR, you should expect lower than the advertised! I hope this helps!

Re: X1 Yoga 3rd Gen Battery Life Less Than 8 Hours

I ran a couple tries today with my Yoga 3rd gen, 500 nits. 20LFCTO1WW.

I disabled sleep and just had one Edge window open, otherwise I did not touch the laptop. No other open programs.

Screen at 100% brightness. The battery life was 2.27, 2.24, and 2.31 for the 3 runs I did from 100% to 5% charge.

The fan is constantly running.

Did you check task manager to see what's running? It's possible Windows is indexing a large music collection, or syncing a large OneDrive folder, indexing photos, malware scanning, downloading updates, etc. Something's running, because with just the screen on and nothing else running there shouldn't be enough CPU activity to case the fan to run continuously.

Re: X1 Yoga 3rd Gen Battery Life Less Than 8 Hours

Several (many?) of us have had continuing problems w/cpu/fans/heat constantly running. Some see the worst while docked, some (me) both docked and AC/charging, and on battery. There's a temp fix in one of the threads, req's rolling back BIOS, w/newer updates breaking the temp fix. We're still waiting.

Re: X1 Yoga 3rd Gen Battery Life Less Than 8 Hours

Any fix to this?  I have the X1Y3 as well and battery life is horrific.  Including in sleep, battery drops way too quick compared to X1Y1 and X1Y2 which I have.  I've noticed the same with my T480s.  I've had numerous other models (T460s, T440s, T450s, T540p, etc.) and battery life in standby and moderate use was pretty good but these new ones I'm disappointed with.  Also the fingerprint reader is more problematic with the T480s and X1Y3 compared to previous gens.  The "can't read fingerprint" rate is much higher on the new models in my experience.  I keep my drivers updated on all models as well.  And always disable "always on usb" so that's not an issue.  I do prefer Chrome, but I've observed the same power loss when going to standby with no apps left open (and chrome/firefox background disabled).  Anyone figure this out?

Re: X1 Yoga 3rd Gen Battery Life Less Than 8 Hours

The issue with the battery drainage while sleeping is captured in this other thread: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Excessive-Battery-Drain-while-ThinkPad-X1-Yog...

Very disappointing that no word from Lenovo about this. I wish I would not have bought this laptop.
