X1 Yoga 3rd Gen Dust under Screen

2018-04-10, 17:42 PM

Hello,

I recently bought the 3rd Gen X1 Yoga (Campus Version, HDR Screen, 16GB RAM, i7 8550u). After the first week of use i found some kind of dark spot on the display, which I thought was some kind of dust on the screen. But I noticed that it would not go away. Looking more closely with the display turned off, it seemed like the spot was under the glass, maybe in the digitizer layer. Shining light on it, it had a more silvery shine and was about .1mm in diameter, but definitly noticable as a dark spot when I had a complety white backgound openend.

I returned it because of that and just got a new one (same model) and it seems like it has some kind of particle under the glass as well... (but in different area and smaller). This really annoys me, because I like the device a lot, but I cannot work with that!

Anyone else had this problem?

Best regards

Philipp

Hi,

I recently bought the same X1 Yoga as you. Because of a defective Pixel (red) in the middle of the screen I returned it. I did not notice any dirt between LCD and digitizer layer.

The replacement unit has now a defective Pixel (red) in about the same area and in addition two dark spots which are about two to four times the size of a dead pixel. They are definitly not dead pixels.

At least Im not the only one. The dark spot you mention pretty much sound like the ones I have as well.

Here are some photos of the specks of my 2nd unit.

Sure they are small. But for a 1,8k€ device which selling point is HDR display IMO this is not acceptable.

Yup, thats how it looks for me as well. Does not seem like they have good quality assurance in the factory..

Re: X1 Yoga 3rd Gen Dust under Screen

I just got a yoga x1 3rd gen (campus edition) as well and it seem to have a stuck red pixel towards the left side. I am not sure if it was from the begining as I used the pixel checker function the seller offered which was meant to eliminate pixel errors on the new machines they sent. So it might have developped a few later.

I am i two minds abbout what to do. It seems to be the only hardware fault in the machine so I am hesitant to send it back to get a replacement and risk getting something back with even more problems or just keep it. Especially since I am not in Germnay at the moment.  Did you guys keep sending it back untill you got something without any screen errors? Just lookig for some advice.

Thanks

Ordered a Lenovo X1 Thinkpad Yoga 4th gen 6 weeks ago and it arrived this morning. I realized that it has the same issue like stated here, so they still haven't fixed their problem with quality assurance.

The dot I have is almost on the center of the screen and around 3-4 pixels in length and width. It's extremely annoying and absolutely unacceptable for a $3k device (WWAN version). Will try to get an Thinkpad X1 Extreme, as is seems that it's the Yoga series, that has this problem.
