X1 Yoga 3rd Gen Fan Runs in Sleep

2018-04-16, 4:48 AM

Hey everyone,

I was wondering is it normal for the fan to be still running after I put the laptop to sleep? It happens both with clicking "Sleep" in the Start Menu and closing the lid. I can see the think red dot starting to blink but the fan still runs for about 30 seconds or so with hot air pumped out.

I've never noticed that with the X1 Yoga 2nd Gen. Is this a new feature or a new bug...?

Thanks a lot!

Jack

Dear customer,

ThinkPad X1 Yoga 3rd supports Modern Standby (a.k.a. S0i3) so that system doesn't go suspend (s3) state.

While display is off, system enters low power state but not suspend state.

So, this is expected behavior.

Modern standby on my X1Y3 is a major step back compared to old-school S3 sleep.  With S0i3 I am losing 3% battery per hour in standby compared to 1-2% over 8 hours on my X1C3 using S3 sleep.  Besides the inconvenience of having to charge the machine more often, this is shortening the lifespan of the battery due to wasted charge cycles.

Is there a way to use the "old" s3 suspend?

I second this question: Is there a way to use the "old" s3 suspend?

I want back S3 sleep too. S0i3 is useless for the most user and do have a big big powerdrain.

Bump this thread as a protest against discrimination between the X1Y3 and the X1C6

If you want to preserve the battery when traveling, do a full shutdown e.g. hold down the Shift key when selecting Shut Down.

Hope this helps!
