X1 Yoga 3rd Gen - Intermittent Wireless Connectivity

2021-06-04, 9:11 AM

Every now and again my laptop will drop wireless connectivity to my router. On-screen MS-Windows will show as still connected, yet my browser (no connection to web pages or streaming freezing)  and Citrix connections (freezing) will tell a different story. This can last anything from 30 sec to 2 min, once in a while, I have to reboot to resolve.

Other devices (6) on the network, some are laptops, at the same time will have no connectivity issues which rules out the router as the issue. The problem must be local to this unit.

Wireless card spec

Wireless,CMB,IN,8265 Vpro

Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 8265

Any idea on why this is happening

Hello mutsaushe,

Welcome to Lenovo Community

Make sure that BIOS and drivers are up to date thru the support site.
Does it happens to all browsers (Google chrome, MS Edge, Firefox, etc.)?
You may try running the machine in SafeMode with networking.
Observe and update us how it goes

The problem across Firefox Chrome and Tor well as Citrix which will actually indicate a loss of stable connectivity

I have attached a the POST screen to this note.

The device is set to always install updates for OS, security, BIOS on a weekly basis

This problem has been going for several months

Drivers (and/or faulty Wlan card from overheating).

X1Y3 8550u Bios 1.41 here. Working fine on a Intel AX210 with Intel WiFi_22.50.1_Driver64_Win10.

Driver changelog:

Random loss of network connectivity with Intel® Dual Band Wireless AC-8260 and AC-8265
adapters. Windows System Event log indicates Event ID 5002 and 5005.

But I changed my 8265 to AX210 for exactly the symptoms you describe. Never had a problem since. Rocksolid. Get it on aliexpress.

Hello mutsaushe,

That may also be an option.
Using another compatible card with the same software configuration would allow to isolate probable hardware issue with the card itself.
