X1 Yoga 5th Gen Integrated Microphone Driver Crashes

2020-09-28, 14:20 PM

Hi,

I'm really hoping someone would be able to help me please!

I bought a new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 5th Gen a couple of months ago. Everything was working fine until recently I have found that the microphone stops working.

When I start my ThinkPad up, the microphone often works for a little while (10 minutes or so) but then stops working. When I go to check in the device manager once it stops working, the microphone driver is missing.

When I first start my laptop up, the microphone driver is present (Microphone Array (Intel Smart Sound Technology (Intel SST)). When it is present, I've checked in the Device Manager to see if the microphone driver is working correctly/all up to date and it all seems okay. I've looked at uninstalling the driver but I cannot seem to find a link to where I can redownload the driver - on Lenovo's driver downloads, it states that the driver download they have available is not compatible for my laptop

Any advice/suggestions would be really, really appreciated please!

Intel SST OED driver is come with the Realtek Audio driver:

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/zh/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x1-yoga-5th-gen-type-20ub-20uc/20ub/downloads/driver-list/component?name=%E9%9F%B3%E6%95%88

unpack the Realtek file, and you will find a folder IntelHDSST which contains all intel SST files.

Do a manual uninstall first as written in the section "Manual Uninstall" of the following instruction, reboot, and reinstall.

https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n2wa111w.txt

By the way, I found change the driver of Intel SST Audio controller (under system devices) back to windows default "High definition audio controller" will solve all the problems.

Dear customers,

We are very sorry about this audio issue on your ThinkPad X1 Yoga 5th.

X1 Carbon 8th / X1 Yoga 5th development team investigated this audio issue and identified the root cause.

They are validating the fix driver now and will be formally released soon. Hopefully they will release the fix driver on Oct. 5th week.

They also plan to deploy this fix driver to other ThinkPad models after X1 Carbon 8th / X1 Yoga 5th.

Dear customers,

Unfortunately, ThinkPad X1C7 / X1Y5 development team could not release the solution driver to the web this week due to some side effects found on fix driver.

Please refer to the below Knowledge Base & Guidance article to avoid the symptom.  The article was initially prepared for ThinkCenter/ThinkStation products

so that some description may not match with ThinkPad products, but it is effective for ThinkPad as well.

Can you say how long it will take for the driver to be released? This problem is really annoying.

Also, please advise your local service centres that this is an issue, as I have talked/visited the centre and the only thing they told me was to install the driver.

Thanks for help

Edit: I followed the advice under the article but it doesn't make a change. Input device is not found

I've also been having this problem since I purchased X1 Yoga. 5 mins after restart the mic disappears, if it doesn't I lose the mic during a zoom call.

The problem doesnt happen when the notebook is docked.

Any timeframe on the fix?

BTW. It's the 10th Gen Core i7 version.

I am experiencing the same problem on the X1 Carbon Gen 8. Especially in these times with a lot of video conferencing, this microphone problem is very annoying.

I would love to hear, if any solution has been found and if the announced driver update that should fix this issue is available already?

Thanks,

Sandro

Could you provide an update on this and an ETA on a 'fix'. Thanks
