X1 Yoga 7th Gen UserPowerModeService many events in System Event Logs

Has anyone else seen this odd behavior? I can easily reproduce on an X1 Yoga 7th Gen, i5-1250P processor in it.  Everything appears to run fine, but in the System event logs I see UserModePowerService Event ID 12 Information entries over and over.  Below are the actual details, averaging about 6 of these a minute.

Process C:\windows\System32\WUDFHost.exe (process ID:2596) reset policy scheme from {381b4222-f694-41f0-9685-ff5bb260df2e} to {381b4222-f694-41f0-9685-ff5bb260df2e}

I have tried  updating all drivers in Vantage, going into BIOS and disabling various I/O components, even turning off the Lenovo and Intel CPU throttling.  It does this on a Lenovo windows 11 image, as well as a custom windows 10.  Here is where it gets interesting.  That GUID is the Balanced Power mode.  If I change the systems to Best Performance, I'll see a couple of those Event ID's and then they stop.  But as soon as it's back to Balanced these continue.

I saw a similar post on a Dell forum and they talked about a proximity sensor.  I did try to disable all of those via Device Manager but the only thing that stops this is high power mode.  I'm hopeful this is a problem Lenovo Engineers are aware of and are fixing?

Has anyone else successfully stopped these without changing the power scheme?  I also have a T14 Gen3 with a U processor, and a P14s Gen3 with a P processor and I can reproduce this on all of these newer platforms.

Re:X1 Yoga 7th Gen UserPowerModeService many events in System Event Logs

Hello JoeGl!

Greetings!

Would there be any performance issue happening or just those event reports?
You can try running diagnostics and likewise sfc scannow to get more details on such declarations.

It would also help if you can provide the OS version, BIOS version, display driver version, and the machine type model or MTM(ex: 10VG0005CA)? Here is how: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Welcome-FAQs/How-to-find-MTM-number-and-S-N-of-a-device/m-p/5068181

This would help us get the model variant details while keeping the confidentiality of the serial number.

Yes, my X1Y7 has the same problem, it did the same thing every 4 seconds.

Curious ujda765, if you switch it to Best Power or Max for the Power Scheme does that make it stop for you?  For anyone not familiar click on the battery icon in the system tray to change schemes.

Jwes_Lenovo, I see this on Win 10 and 11, current versions.  They systems have been fully updated via Vantage tool, and I can also repro on the older factory image as well.  This seems like a bigger issue on these 12th Gen chips.

Yes it will stop.

I found similar discussions regarding Dell XPS with 12th intel cpu, it looks this is triggered by new cpu design.

I tested, this issue will go away if you set it to maximum performance when connected to AC power, you can keep your original power scheme under battery power.  You will not see this event if you do as this.

This issue only happens if you set the computer  in any lower performance schemes when connected to AC power.

As others mentioned in other forums, this is a kind of bug only existed in the new 12th generation intel CPU.

Nice extra testing ujda765.  I spent way too long trying to find the service or BIOS setting that might be affecting this but never found which one.  I'll escalate this to my Lenovo contacts and see if they can help and report back any findings.

Re:X1 Yoga 7th Gen UserPowerModeService many events in System Event Logs

I am also experiencing this phenomena, with thousands of identical entries in the Windows Logs - System. As suggested in the thread, I can also confirm that the entries disappear when the power mode is set to "best performance" in Windows Settings.

Level: Information
Source: UserModePowerService
Event ID: 12
Task Category: (10)

I stumbled upon this trying to troubleshoot sleep issues. Upon waking, the laptop freezes at log-in and then crawls along for a few minutes until the system recovers to normal operation. After a restart, waking from sleep is immediate the first couple times, but then eventually the freezing upon wake issue returns. I suspect some drivers are not playing nice with Modern Standby, but I do not have enough technical knowledge to fully troubleshoot. Perhaps these two issues are related?

So disappointed that a brand new top-of-the-line Thinkpad can already have so many issues, regardless of whether it be a Microsoft Windows problem or Lenovo hardware one. At the end of the day, we want computers that just work.

Machine details
OS: Windows 11 Pro
BIOS: N3AET65W 1.30 (latest)
Display driver: Intel Iris Xe Graphics 31.0.101.3301
Machine type model: X1 Yoga Gen7 21CDCTO1WW

Re:X1 Yoga 7th Gen UserPowerModeService many events in System Event Logs

I've had a case open with Premier for a couple weeks now for these extra System events, it's been escalated up, so just waiting to hear back and then I'll post again.

Issues on new laptops can be frustrating.  As for your freezing do you have a USB-C or Thunderbolt dock?  We've had some issues with the Realtek NIC, there is a long thread on that in these forums.  If you have a 4g/5g WWAN card try turning that off as well.  Usually they sleep fine, but on occasion I've seen those cards misbehave.

I'll say this about new models from Lenovo.  It seems like it takes them a bit to get drivers/BIOS/firmware just right with modern sleep.  If you've not used Vantage to get current I'd start there, some of the Lenovo Power Mgmt and cooling drivers had issues early on with these new models.  To give Lenovo some credit they will get it right, but waiting can be frustrating.
