X1 Yoga Gen 3 Wireless Problem 21.20.0.0u

2019-07-01, 16:22 PM

When X1 Yoga gen 3 goes to sleep with the new driver 21.20.0.0u there will me network problem, you only need to turn the network card off and on again to fix it. The driver version for Intel Wireless AC 8265 is "20.70.10.2". That is the broken driver. The old version is ok the version 20.70.9.1.

I uninstalled the new driver and Windows will find the old driver.

I needed to disable both Windows 10 driver update and Lenovo Vantage driver update so the driver would not update.

I hope Lenovo and Intel will fix this problem soon.

Check the power options of your Wireless card

Disable Power Management of WiFi Adapter

  • Right-click Start and select Device Manager
  • Double left-click on Network Adapters to expand that section
  • Right-click on your Wireless LAN (WiFi) adapter and select Properties
  • Select the Power Management tab and uncheck the box to "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

Set power saving mode to Maximum Performance

    • Click Start and type Control Panel, and select Control Panel from search results to open
    • Left-click on Hardware and Sound and then Power Options (or just select Power Options if already set to show icons)
    • Left-click on Change Plan Settings to the right of your selected power plan
    • Left-click on Change advanced power settings
    • Scroll down to Wireless Adapter Settings, and click the + to expand, and then do the same for Power Saving Mode
    • Uses the pull down menu to change set the Setting: to Maximum Performance.

Test and see if the problem is resolved.

Note that setting disabling the ability of the computer to power off the WiFi adapter will use a little bit of power when in sleep mode, but once the computer hibernates it should not be an issue.

      Cheers,

I've been having the same issue. Every time I close my X1 Carbon 6th and it sleeps, upon waking it up the Wifi status says "Connected, Secured" but there is no internet access. Every time this happens I have to disconnect, and reconnect to the network. Never had this problem until I updated to V.21.20.0.0u. Going to have to revert to the previous version.

I have tested both sulutions but this did not help, revert to old driver fixes the problem.

Set power saving mode to Maximum Performance

Disable Power Management of WiFi Adapter

Thanks for the tips.

I have 40 Lenovo Carbon laptops in my org, so I did use this GPO to stop install of the new driver:

I hope Intel and Lenovo will fix this problem soon.

Hi, this is the same issue discussed here:

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1C6-Wi-Fi-gateway-unavailable-after-resume-from-Modern-Sleep/m-p/4463985#M101356

The current solution is to roll back the drivers.
