X1 Yoga WWAN & WAN Whitelist parts?

2016-03-12, 22:27 PM

So I have been searching and searching and searching on information of a possible whitlist for our devices.  Ihave seen another thread talking about this on a different X series laptop. And that had a link in it to another thread that also discussed it as well. But, if any one knows if our X1 Yogas have a white list on any part and connector to part list.

Good day.

I believe this: https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/x1yoga_frubom_20160107.pdf

is what you seek. Please see the last page.

Hope this helps.

Regards.

I did see this a while back But thank you any way. The thing that I am looking for is info on weather or not Lenovo does or does not restrict the use of wireless cards other than what they sell. In our laptops. Reason being is I want NFC in my X1. I could care less about Vpro. It is of no use to me. But, I do not want to order anything from Lenovo. They charge an arm and a leg. And I am done paying with any body parts. I already gave a testicle just for the laptop it self. LOL!

My apologies.

From your post I thought you were simply looking for which parts are implied as passing the BIOS check. To my knowledge, genuine FRU-labeled parts are still required to pass the check.

That said, you're not required to source the parts from Lenovo, but they will need to be appropriately labeled / have the proper internal hardware device SUB_ID information.

Regards.

If that is the case, I will be sorly dissapointed in purchasing such a device as this. I have never heard of any one spending lots of money, just to be told what one can and can not do with the device that they purchased. If it is the case, it will be time to find a way to reverse engenier this BIOS and impliment a new one. I can say this, if it is tehe case, i will not be purchasing a Lenovo again. Heck, if this is truly an FCC restriction as some have claimed. I will just have to purchase other country hardware that is not restricted in such ways.

Today, I discovered the X1 Yoga has a whitelist on WWAN. The generic EM7455 version is rejected by the BIOS. Only the Lenovo version is acceptable. Latest BIOS as of today installed.

Lenovo has always white-listed WLAN/WWAN devices - it's the IBM background ;) HP do the same.

They have started to do the same in consumer (Yoga, etc.) devices also.

While older devices BIOSes have been cracked, I am not aware of anything for current devices. Unless someone knows otherwise?

If you don't want restrictions there is one big company left - though the drivers may also check model though they can generally be extracted and will work though manual installation.
