X1 carbon 20A8 wifi adaptor problem

2014-11-04, 12:05 PM

I am having an issue with my brand new thinkpad new x1 carbon. I am running win 8.1 64bit version. The problem is that whenever i restart/shutdown my pc, it does not have wireless connection any more. In the device manager, it shows a yellow ! saying:This device cannot start (code 10) {operational failed} But when i disable and re-enable the device(reinstall the driver also works), the wireless connection become avaiable again. Seems that it has some problem at every reboot. My driver version is 17.1.0 please help!

Hello.

Your machine has the Dual Band AC7260 adapter, right?

I experienced the exact same thing on my W540 and what I did was I uninstalled the Intel ProSet application through Programs and Features, and once the uninstall process finished, the adapter automatically picked up the older 16.5.3.6 version of the driver, which runs absolutely problem-free.

I tried manually installing the newest 17.12.0 drivers for Win8.1 from Lenovo, but that resulted in the same problem when resuming from sleep.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

but thanks to make me not feel alone.
p..s. by any chance that you have the old version driver?

Yes. I did a bit of testing on these older drivers, and these here work perfectly, both as driver-only and if you want the ProSet suite, it works as well.

Here is the driver only package DRIVERS ONLY: Wireless_16.7.0_De164.exe

Here is the full ProSet suite and driver Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software (includes Drivers): Wireless_16.7.0_e164.exe

These upgraded my WLAN driver to 16.6.0.8, which works fine for me, but if you want to experiment with newer drivers, then you can find all of them here:

Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software

Cheers!

How is it not working? Not resuming from sleep still?

Can you do a quick check for good measure?

Open up Control Panel - Device Manager and Expand the Network Adapter category: Report back with which adapter you have on your machine.

1. Device Manager - Network Adapters

Right click your WLAN adapter and select properties - select the Driver tab and report back which version of the driver you have installed:

2. Network Adapter properties - Driver Tab.

Lastly, open up the Power Management Tab and clear the checkmark from "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." This has sometimes fixed the frequent disconnect / failure to resume connection after sleep in Windows 8 / 8.1, and thus I turn this off by default on my Win8/8.1 machines.

3. Network Adapter properties - Power Management Tab
