X1 carbon 5th gen + USB-C dock gen 1 new Thunderbolt driver, it crashes out daily

2020-02-03, 11:44 AM

I've never had problems with X1 carbon 5th gen + USB-C dock gen 1. After the new Thunderbolt driver, it craps out daily. Today it acted weird after returning from lunch, ethernet port did not work, device manager crashed/ stop responding if trying to enable/ disable it from there. Tried to reconnect dock, power cycle the dock, no difference. Reboot of the computer fixed it. There is some glitvhy behavior still going on, even after this "fix".

Running 1909 with latest cumulative update btw. Enterprise x64.

If I can provide any data that can help you guys troubleshoot; please tell me.

Hi olavrb! Can you send to us the system information by typing msinfo at the search box on your screen? Try installing the driver and firmware of the docking station: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/acc100348. Let us know how it goes.

Dock firmware and drivers are already up to date, no more updates found with System Update either.

The frequency of dock failure has become lower, last time was tuesday. Maybe a Windows update affected this issue as well.

Msinfo output is sent to you by PM.

We are having a hard time accessing the information you've sent via PM. Just send a screenshot of the system information here and cover those information you don't want to share. Try installing the update for the Thunderbolt driver and firmware here: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/ph/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x1-carbon-type-20hr-20hq/downloads/driver-list/component?name=Display%20and%20Video%20Graphics.

Let us know how it goes.

All drivers, firmware, BIOS is up to date.

Hardware: 20HR003GMX, only changed the NVME drive to Samsung Evo 970 Pro 512gb.

It has not happened any more since I created this thread, maybe it was due to Windows updates rather than Thunderbolt firmware or other SW from Lenovo. Will tell you if I experience this again.
