X1 carbon does not start

2014-03-04, 16:34 PM

My X1 laptop isn't starting.

I've tried the usual reset button in the back of the laptop but didn't work.

Also tried other recommendation I found on this forum such as ctrl+alt+vol down+power...etc.

I see tiny green light next to the plug but no lightrs from battery sign or sleep sign with AC plugged in or unplugged.

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I’m sorry to hear that your X1 carbon is not starting.

Since reset doesn't work, you can do a factory bios reset, by removing both the main battery and cmos battery. This will reset the BIOS back to factory condition.

Refer the hardware maintenance manual for better understanding on how to do the same.

If that too didn’t help, I would strongly recommend you to contact our technical support for assistance.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I’m sure they will be a great help.

Best Regards,

Mithun.

if the green light is not ON next to the power adapter. It means your adapter is faulty and not providing power to the system.

@mithunr,

X1 Carbon has integrated battery and cmos battery, and it is not recommended by Lenovo to open the system to do system reset.

Green light is on next to the AC power adapter plug so it's not the adapter.

Couple of times, the power just went out while I was using the laptop even though I have full power.

I had to press the reset button several times to get back in.  Pressing once doesn't work either.

i see, have you tried to update the BIOS firmware? Do you still have warranty? It could be faulty motherboard issue.

Re: X1 carbon does not start

My warranty ran out as of 10/2013.

Now every morning when I turn on my computer, I have to push the reset button.  I'm afraid to lose my hard drive or something at some point so I started  backing up my machine.

I haven't done bios firmware update yet.

How do I do that?

Hi,

Sorry to hear that your system ran out of warranty.

Download the BIOS update utility from Lenovo support page by entering the MTM number of your device and refer the instructions mentioned in the readme file.

Make sure the AC adapter is firmly connected to the target computer.

Best regards,

Mithun.

So far, I haven't had to reset my batter after bios update downloaded from Lenovo Thinkvantage tools.

I hope it stays that way.  I will update if the it occurs again over next several days.  If it doesn't happen, I will update it with final conclusion as well.  Thanks for the help everyone.

Hi,

Nice to hear that BIOS update fixed the issue as of now. Please post back if issue persists!
